Narrowed Topic: Sexual Harassment in the Workplace Research Question: Are the measures put in a workplace to prevent sexual harassment really working? Tentative Claim/Thesis (Situated in a Valid Debate): I oppose that measures put in the workplace help prevent sexual harassment Rationale and Research Plan – Background, Overview, Approach, Research Plan, and Possible Complications (at least two full paragraphs): Background and Overview- Sexual Harassment varies by many terms, it can range from physical to verbal behaviors from one employee to another. Each workplace one chooses should have “preventative measures” put into place to help protect the victim from the abuser, but does it really work? My approach when working on this paper is to argue that yes there is measures put into play, but it still continues to happen and often times leaving the victim to deal with the aftermath of not being taken seriously. I plan to also include my own experiences to help support my argument being that I have worked at many jobs who have not done much at all about what I dealt with. I think having these measures makes a company look great, but in reality, it often goes unnoticed and much to nothing is ever really done. Research Plan and Possible Complications- My research plan is to find supporting articles who do feel the same as how I do, and to furthermore express that serious changes do need to happen, or this cycle of abuse will continue. I think that often people in the workplace blame the victim instead of protecting the victim which continues to allow the behavior of the perpetrator. Another plan I have is to find articles of sexual harassment coming from the abuser who has higher power in the workforce than the victim often allowing it to be swept under the rug. Possible complications will be that some workplaces do take sexual harassment seriously and making it counterargue my point where I have very too little hopes for the measures to really be taken seriously. Another could be that survivors of sexual harassment in the workplace could agree that they were treated with the highest respect and had matters handled swiftly and immediately.
