Desiree Moss 3-4-2008 EDTC 100 Autobiography Throughout my life I have always been drawn to children rather than people my own age or adults. I remember the first moment I discovered this love for children, I was a twelve-year-old 6th grader at St. Vincent’s Episcopal School. As upper classmen we would help watch the kindergarten class during the morning church services at our private school. Each and every child in that class was different and special in there own little way, I loved every single one. The day I “graduated” from that school in 6th grade I had one last opportunity to say goodbye to them. I had grown so close to the children, which made it hard to leave them and I think of them even to this day. I hope that somehow I had a positive impact on their lives and the lives of every child that I will one day meet. This moment in my life is what has made me who I am and who I will one day become. I was born on July 8, 1988 and raised in Grapevine, Texas. I grew up in a Christian home and attended a non-denominational church. I went to a private school SVES from preschool to 6th grade. I received a great education and always had the best teachers. When my parents divorced in 2001, my mother, sister, and I moved to Sulphur, Louisiana. I then began my first year in public school, which was a major culture shock. I attended Sulphur High School where I initially decided to go into classes pertaining to nursing and science. Since I had received such a great early education, I was able to take the advanced placement courses. As a child my family and I always went on amazing trips. We went to the Smokey Mountains, saw the Twin Towers, swam in the Pacific Ocean, saw the Liberty Bell, and stood outside of our State Capitol. Every place we went we always got pins to put on a hat our mother had made for us as memories. Since 2nd grade I have played piano, mainly classical music. I also dabbled a little with the violin in 4th grade but that did not last long. I also played the bass guitar in high school in my old youth group band at Victory Worship Center. I have had many great opportunities as a child to travel and be a part of music. I have always been a hard worker starting at the age of sixteen with my first job. I have been a cashier, an office clerk, a CNA, a personal banker, and a babysitter. I never step down from a challenge and I like to try and learn new things. I have tutored some of my classmates as well as my sister and some of her friends, which was voluntary. I have had the opportunity to baby-sit every Friday night for the past two years. I was a member of Health Careers Club; I was an officer for Governor’s Program on Abstinence, and also a Student Council representative throughout high school. My senior year I had the opportunity to be in the Sulphur High School beauty pageant for GPA where I placed top ten. On Sunday mornings, my friend and I teach 2nd grade Sunday school at Glad Tidings. We incorporate stories from the Bible into things or problems that the children deal with in everyday life whether it is at school or with friends and family. I have been able to experience two different cultures, Canada and Mexico. I was able to see the beautiful gardens of Canada and the dirty slums of Mexico. My youth group took a mission trip to Monterey, Mexico my junior year in high school. We helped
