Nomenclature Rules for Alkanes: IUPAC System, Study notes of Organic Chemistry

The rules for naming alkanes using the international union of pure and applied chemistry (iupac) system. The longest alkyl chain serves as the parent chain, and substituents are named and numbered in alphabetical order, with prefixes such as methyl, ethyl, and propyl. Cycloalkanes are named using the prefix 'cyclo'. Examples are provided for various alkanes.
