IDS 476 / ECON 450 Spring Semester, 2006 Assignment #3 (Due on Friday, 3 - March - 2006) Select two series from R1 – R10 in the TSERIES.MAC file according to the last two digits of your student ID (1 for R1, 2 for R2, ..., and 0 for R10). If the last two digits are the same, pick the associated series and the next series and perform the following analysis: 1. Print and graph the series; 2. Compute sample ACF of the original series. If the original series is non-stationary, the series should be differenced (until stationary) and the sample ACF, PACF, and EACF be computed. 3. Identify an appropriate model for the series using the information obtained in Step 2. 4. Estimate the tentatively identified model (be sure to hold the residuals). 5. Perform diagnostic checking on the estimated model. Revise your model if needed. 6. After you have obtained a satisfactory model, perform forecasting using that model.
