Math 201 Exam I Review Name: This is meant to give you a flavor of how the exam is going to look and what might be on it. It will cover sections 2.4-2.6, 3.7, 3.9, 3.10 and 4.1, 4.3 and 4.5. The exam will have the same format as what you see here but the number of questions may vary. (1) Compute dy dx for the following equations. (a) see problems 1-71 of the review exercises for Chapter 3 (b) don’t forget implicit differentiation (2) Sketch a graph of the function f(x) =???. See Chapter 4 review exercises 13-18. (3) Find the tangent line approximation for g(x) =???. See Section 3.9. (4) Find the local and global extrema for the following functions. (a) see Sections 4.1 and 4.3 (5) This problem will be a word problem that uses optimization. See Section 4.5. (6) There will be a question about differentiability - using either the Racetrack Principle or the constant value theorem. See Section 3.10. (7) I might ask you to show that a specified derivative does not exist at a point. See Section 3.10 and the examples from class (|x|, x1/3 at x = 0). 1
