According to Merriam Webster, "Self in culture is the development of one's mind or capacities through one's own efforts". Culture changes every perspective of every people's life; it makes us more open and strengthens our mutual understanding. It can present our values, the way we see ourselves, and our culture. Every person is different because we came from different cultures. Every individual will have their own cultural identity, values, and beliefs that create our cultural being. When we grow older, our culture changes because we can learn something new from each other, and also, we learn from ourselves. It is also developing cultural self-awareness. Cultural awareness is our perspective that can impact our behavior in our life. Winkelman (2006) states that “Cultural self-awareness includes recognition of one’s own cultural influences upon values, beliefs, and judgments, as well as the influences derived from the professional’s work culture”. Cultural self-awareness is important to help us to understand and develop our skills. It helps us on how we learn to love and appreciate those different from us. Our cultural self- awareness is our understanding of the differences between ourselves and people from other backgrounds, especially in our attitudes and values. We can enhance ourselves when we connect and understand other's perspectives. In addition, we can relate better to people with cultural differences as we begin to understand ourselves better.
