Cherry Mae Corpuz Cruz GRADE 10 DARWIN Annotated Bibliography: “Unveiling the Effects of Social Media Usage on Academic Performance among Grade 10 Students” Karpinski, Angela C., et al. “Facebook and academic performance.” Computers in Human Behavior, vol. 26, no. 6, 2010, pp. 1237-1245. In the study conducted by Karpinski et al. (2010), the researchers surveyed college students to investigate the relationship between Facebook use and academic performance. They measured variables such as the amount of time spent on Facebook, the frequency of Facebook logins, academic engagement, and GPA.The findings revealed a negative correlation between Facebook use and academic performance. Specifically, students who spent more time on Facebook tended to have lower GPAs and reported spending less time studying. However, the study did not establish a causal relationship between Facebook use and academic performance, but rather highlighted an association worth further exploration. This study’s insights can be extrapolated to Grade 10 students, suggesting that excessive use of social media platforms like Facebook may potentially detract from academic engagement and performance. It underscores the importance of understanding the balance between social media use and academic responsibilities among students.
