Annotated Bibliography Peer Review Draft Due Thursday, March 1st Final Draft Due Thursday, March 8th by 9a For this assignment, you will be collecting scholarly sources for your research project. However, you are not just finding and summarizing sources; your goal is to synthesize the information, grasp the different perspectives and form a holistic view of your topic. No research is written or read in isolation; likewise for your eventual research paper. You are joining a conversation with other writers and professionals, just as your sources are. As such, you should be familiar with the ongoing dialogue and prepared to engage the topic fully. And your annotated bibliography is the start of that conversation. The notations for your annotated bibliography should help you in your research project: they should compare/contrast other listed sources, summarize and assess the main arguments of the source, and include an analysis/critique of the source. Therefore, each entry should be at least one paragraph of at least 150 words. The more active your are now in reading, analyzing, summarizing, and critiquing your topic and sources, the easier (and more engaging) your final research paper will be. To help you construct your annotated bibliography, you should read and study the following web sites, which give further instruction and provide examples of completed annotated bibliographies: UCSC How to http://library.ucsc.edu/ref/howto/annotated.html CalPoly Writing an Annotated Bibliography http://www.lib.calpoly.edu/research/guides/ bibliography.html Purdue’s Online Writing Lab http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/general/ gl_annotatedbib.html Your final annotated bibliography must have a minimum of ten (10) sources composed of at least seven (7) scholarly sources and no more than three (3) popular sources. Your draft must have at least half of the required amount. If you have any trouble, do not hesitate to email us. We want you to have a fruitful learning experience, not a meaningless frustrating one. And, of course, good luck. ENC 1102 - Annotated Bibliography 1
