Citrus maxima are the largest fruit from Rutaceae family. The fruit is the largest of all citrus fruits with the measurement of 10-30 cm. The pomelo tree has low spreading branches that grow around 5-15 m in height. The thorny tree has many branches and fruits all over a year. Its leaves grow about 15 cm wide. The flowers are white, fragrant, and grow, but some can have a bitter taste. Pomelo is a large fruit that is Asian in origin. Many health and medicinal benefits have been claimed for this plant. It can be eaten on its own or in salad. The Chinese make various medicines from the seeds, flowers, mature peel, and slices of young pomelo fruit. It is used to treat cough, indigestion, and motion sickness. The Malays eat the fruit to treat abdominal pains, edema and phlegm; they also boil the pomelo leaves to make lotion, which is applied on swellings and ulcer. The pomelo peels are bitter when eaten raw but its bitter taste can be removed It is rich source of Antioxidant as compared to its pulp. It is also rich in dietary fibre, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Calcium, Riboflavin, Copper, Thiamine and Potassium. Its rinds are used in culinary purposes such as adding it as an ingredient in baked goods. The pomelo peels are scrubbed with salt, washed with water, soaked with soda, and cut into smaller pieces. The product is a much healthier alternative to fruit flavoured candies. The candied peels contain more nutrients than regular candies and the sweetness can be altered when making the candy. It also lessens the waste created when eating the fruit.
