Archaic period - Greek period of art before the classical period. 660-480 BC 10. Black-figure painting - A three stage process that gives vases and other ceramic vessels a black figure on a reddish ground pot or vessel. 11. Doric order - The simplest of the three architectural orders. Were used on the Parthenon. 12. Ionic order - Architectural order is defined by curvilinear scrolls 13. Corinthian order - Architecturally styled order contains the most elaborate at the top 14. Kouros figure - An ancient male sculpture devotional or funerary figure. 15. Kore figure - Ancient female figure that is more ornately painted and decorated than the male kouros 16. Peplos - Type of clothing that closely resembles a long tunic 17. Mural painting - The application of paint upon a wall in a designed fashion revealing the artistic image. 18. Weight and shift principle - Positioning of the human figure so that the legs and hips are turned in one direction and the chest arms are in another direction. It is a counter balance technique 19. Aqueduct - Transportation technology allowed water to travel large distances. Latin: "To carry water"
