Assignment # 1 for Biol 5020-02/7020-02 - Spring 2008 Asson-Batres / x 5779 / massonbatres@tnstate.edu 1. Locate Room 102 in Holland Hall. This is where Friday seminars will be held this year. There is no seminar this Friday and you are excused from Dr. Kahlon’s class this week. However, you need to locate the room as “not knowing where it is” and arriving late when the seminar series starts next week (Jan 25) will not be an excuse. 2. Pick up a copy of the syllabus. Familiarize yourself with it. I will answer questions about it at our Wednesday class next week. 3. Draw an article title from the “hat”. Your assignment for next Wednesday is to: a. Obtain or print out a hardcopy of the article and bring it to class (1 point of your grade) b. Prepare a 3-min presentation on the Figure/Table that is assigned – noted just below the article reference information on the paper you selected. You can (I encourage you) to read your presentation. You cannot exceed 3 min. You may prepare up to three powerpoint slides, but you will need to prepare at least one. Bring your presentation on a CD or jump drive. You will be expected to explain all terms and relevant information associated with the Figure/Table. You are to assume you are speaking to an audience with no background in college-level biology. There are 9 students registered in the class, so everyone will have time to present. Questions or Problems? Call, email, or visit me (make an appointment in advance if you plan the latter).
