Download ENVR 890 Assignment: Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Group Presentations and more Assignments Environmental Science in PDF only on Docsity! Second and final assignment: ENVR 890 The second assignment will be a group presentation on a topic of your choice relevant to water, sanitation, and hygiene in developing countries. You may choose to focus on a specific region, intervention, program strategy, or agent of disease. You may choose to take a policy or economic view of a topic presented in class. The point is that you use some aspect of WSH as a jumping off point for a deeper examination of a topic of interest to you. Please form your own groups of 4 people. If you would like to be assigned to a group, please send me an email saying so (joebrown@email.unc.edu). We should end up with 7 groups altogether, possibly with one group having 3 or 5 persons. Deliverables:  Please plan on giving a 25 minute presentation to the class. You can tag-team present or nominate a presenter for the group.  Please send a copy of your slides to the listserv in advance of your presentation, ideally the day before.  Prepare a one-page handout that summarizes your topic and includes key references for further reading. You can either email this to the listserv or bring handouts for everyone in the class. Grading:  Your grade will be based on a review by the instructor & TA (40%), a peer review of those in attendance (25%), a review by your other team members of your contribution to the team effort (25%), and your attendance at others' talks (10%). Scheduling:  Presentations will take place during scheduled class times on April 19, 24, and 26. Once you have formed a group, please email me the class period you'd like to use for your talk. This is a first-come, first-served process for scheduling talk dates/times. More on topics: Your topic should be cleared by Prof Sobsey or Joe Brown. So once you've convened your group, decide on a topic or potential topics and run your idea past one or both of us. You should have your team and your topic together by April 12 (a week from today). Some potential topics might be:  A new and emerging strategy for reducing disease related to WSH  The relative importance of water, sanitation, or hygiene in reducing disease at the global or local level  The economics of small-scale water treatment or sanitation  The politics of local water supply in your favorite region or country  Socio-cultural factors that influence the sustainability of a given WSH intervention  Climate change and local-level variability of water resources: effects on health  Local management of water resources  Water and sanitation technologies in arid areas/Siberia/flood-prone areas, etc  New analytical tools or methodologies in water microbiology/health  A specific study of the epidemiology of waterborne infectious disease  Specific chemical or microbial agents of disease at the global or local scale Use your imagination and make this a fun and informative (okay, informative at least) exercise for yourselves and the rest of us. Find ways of incorporating your own expertise with topics surveyed in the class.
