Introduction In the last decade, the use of social networking sites (SNSs) has grown exponentially. For example, statistics provided by Facebook (2014) reveal that as of March 2014 there were 1.28 billion active users on the site per month, and at least 802 million of these users logged into Facebook every day. With statistics such as these, it is not surprising that Facebook is the most popular SNS in the world. The increasing popularity of Facebook has prompted scholars and educators to explore its potentials as a learning environment for various fields of education, which provide a variety of social benefits to students (Barrot, 2018). My research is conducted collecting data from a survey in students in Banking Academy because this is department that i belong to or work with so it will be much easier for me to conduct a survey among these object with a desire to be of service to society by helping students recognize the good and bad of using Facebook in study as well as self-assess whether they are using social networks in a healthy way. II. Problem Statement 2.1. Rationale Because of being a regular Facebook user and knowing about the significant influence of Facebook on young people, especially students, I have a desire to conduct a research about the positive and negative effects of this social networking platform on students' academic performance to encourage students to use Facebook for the right frequency and purpose as well as avoid possible consequences in the future if they become addicted to Facebook. 2.2. Scope The scope of the study was limited to 100 students between the ages of 18 and 22 who were studying at the Banking Academy or participating in Banking Academy’s club. The survey period will last for a maximum of 1 months and will end when either 100 volunteers have been recruited or 1 months have passed. Each volunteer to the study will be asked to complete a short questionnaire in order to evaluate the frequency of using facebook and its application in learning outcomes. 2 Banking Academy students' perspective towards advantages and disadvantages of Facebook on learning outcomes 2.3. Research Questions This study is conducted to answer the three following questions “What motivates Banking Academy students to use Facebook?” “What are students' opinions towards the benefits of Facebook?” and “What are students' opinions towards the drawbacks of Facebook?” III. Objectives This study is aimed at investigating the frequency of using Facebook and their consequences among Banking Academy students. This study aims to look into the improvement of Banking Academy students when using Facebook in learning. The purpose of the research is to go through some ways Banking Academy students have used to overcome when using Facebook has a bad impact on academic performance. IV. Preliminary Literature Review Alloway et al. (2013) conducted a study 104 high school students in the United Kingdom and found young students who had used Facebook for more than a year had higher score in tests of verbal ability, working memory, and spelling compared with their peers who had used it for a shorter time period. Chugh and Ruhi (2018), other authors with a similar perspective stated that multiple benefits of Facebook usage for learning and teaching had been being identified such as increased teacher-student and student-student interaction, improved performance, the convenience of learning and higher engagement. On the other hand, Khe Foon Hew (2011) argued that Facebook thus far has very little educational use, that students use Facebook mainly to keep in touch with known individuals, and that students tend to disclose more personal information about themselves on Facebook, hence attracting potential privacy risks upon themselves. Karpinski and Kirschner (2010) conducted a study which lead to the results that Facebook users reported having lower GPAs and spend fewer hours per week studying than nonusers. Lee (2014) came to the conclusion that on average, teenage Facebook users spend more time on Facebook activities than studying after conducting survey among Black and Hispanic teens. 3 Banking Academy students' perspective towards advantages and disadvantages of Facebook on learning outcomes Overall, the majority of research’s arguments are organized in a logical order, making the information more accessible. All study papers have clearly stated their viewpoints in the research paper, underlining the role of using Facebook for learning, but no research paper has shown clearly both the benefits and drawback of using Facebook for educational purposes. The research papers was published in 2010 and 2014, which is considered to be outdated, not accurate to update the current status of using facebook for students' learning. Another aspect is the research objects of the articles are aimed at foreign students in other countries all over the world, so they cannot accurately reflect the reality of Vietnamese students in general and international students Banking Academy in particular, where I am studying. V. Methodology 5.1. Research type My research adopts quantitative method as a methodology because the quantitative research was conducted to find out the answers of the research questions. As a result, it provides me with the statistics I need to strengthen the broad basic elements of my research. 5.2. Participants My research is conducted collecting data from a survey in 200 students in class CO1A at ISBA, the Banking information technology club (BIT) and the Student union in BA (Blue Wings) among 15 minutes breaks from class or club activities. 5.3. Procedures Each person will be given a piece of paper containing survey questions along with a pen and after 5 minutes the surveyor will collect the results so the data can be later conducted. With the fundamental data from the questionnaires, frequency of using Facebook as well as its influence on the learning of BA students in this study would be clarified as well as the research questions would be answered. 4
