Many of us have probably heard this word before, whether it is in books, shows, or something you experienced before. Have you ever felt this fear, hopelessness, humiliation and sadness? Bullying is something that has been entertained countless times, but still remains such a big problem in society. However, most people don't realise that it's such a big problem. Some might not realise bullying is happening in their lives. When most of us think about bullying, perhaps we think about another kid bullying another one on the playground. But it's way more than that. People get bullied in school, their workplace and even on social media. People get bullied because of the clothes they wear, the type of car they drive, and their profession. When | think of bullying, one question comes to my mind. What does bullying achieve for the bullies? Does it bring happiness to them? Does it really build their self confidence? Or is it just a reflection of the bully’s own lack of self confidence, as well as a longing to fit in? Now, what is the definition of bullying? Bullying is the action of seeking to intentionally coerce, harm or intimidate someone else who is seen as more vulnerable or weak. Bullies bully others by frightening or hurting them, or forcing them to do something they do not want to. According to studies, 20% of kids have been bullied, and 15% of the kids report not showing up to school out of fear of being bullied, while over 10% of the kids believe the only way for them to get away from the harassment and bullying is to change schools to get a fresh start. Victims of bullying are often scared to confide in others, as they could be pressured to keep quiet, or worried about being labelled a snitch. Some of these kids might even question how they can change to avoid the bullying. But why should these kids change, when their bullies still roam free around and should be the one changing instead? Because of bullying, many great ideas have been lost, people have become depressed and turned their hurt and anger on others. They have been permanently scarred and hurt, they even question their existence. They feel worthless, hopeless and guilty. They start to withdraw from the world to avoid pain and suffering. They may even have inflicted pain on themselves, or committed suicide. All these just because of bullying. Telling someone they're fat doesn't make you any skinnier. Telling someone they're ugly doesn't make you any prettier. Telling someone they're stupid doesn’t make you any smarter. Your freedom of speech does not give you the right to verbally abuse someone. No matter the way you are being brought up or taught, there's no reason. None. To make someone want to die. Bullying is not okay. Bullying needs to be stopped.
