An overview of the new deal, a series of programs, public work projects, financial reforms, and regulations enacted by president franklin d. Roosevelt in the united states between 1933 and 1939 to provide relief, recovery, and reform from the devastating effects of the great depression. Three significant ways the new deal sought to address these problems: through major legislation such as the national industrial recovery act, agricultural adjustment act, and social security act; the creation of organizations like the civilian conservation corps, works progress administration, and tennessee valley authority; and relief and recovery efforts including the federal emergency relief administration, home owners' loan corporation, and public works administration.
