THE CHURCH PERFECTED IN GLORY CHRISTIAN LIVING EDUCATION 12 The Church Perfected in Glory “The Church… will receive its perfection only in the glory of heaven”, at the time of Christ’s glorious return. Until that day, “the Church progresses on her pilgrimage amidst this world’s persecutions and God’s consolations.” – The mystery of the holy Church is manifested in its very foundation. The Lord Jesus set it on its course by preaching the Good News, that is, the coming of the Kingdom of God, which, for centuries, had been promised in the Scriptures: “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand”. – At the end of the time the Church will gloriously achieve completion, when, as is read in the Fathers, all the just, from Adam and “from Abel, the just one, to the last of the elect,” will be gathered together with the Father in the universal Church. The Eschatological Nature of the Pilgrim Church and Its Union with the Church in Heaven – The Church, to which we are all called in Christ Jesus, and in which we acquire sanctity through the grace of God, will attain its full perfection only in the glory of heaven, when there will come the time of the restoration of all things. At that time, the human race as well as the entire world, which is intimately related to man and attains to its end through Him, will be perfectly reestablished in Christ. – The Church in participation in the Perfection must actively participates in its mission, share its evangelical vocation, and live the teachings of Jesus Christ. – It is a given reality that all of our lives will soon end, nothing will remain forever in this earthly life that we have. It is therefore important to realize as part of our faith that the life that is given to us to spend here on earth is s preparation for the life to come as prepared for us by God our Father. The promise of eternal life is something that we have held for so long as it was fulfilled when Jesus Christ died on the Cross. Through His death, we were made worthy of this life and God’s promise is fulfilled.
