Monterey Jazz Festival On Tour Monterey Jazz Festival On Tour was my first jazz festival. It is the longest continuously-running jazz festival in the world. It was founded on October 3, 1958, by jazz disc jockey Jimmy Lyons. In 2019 the goal of the festival was to expand on its tradition of presenting the best in jazz and of jazz’s younger, international, and diverse future 2019. It was the year of the festival's 60th anniversary. Considering the ethos of the annual event and festival goals, the band was designed to be a celebration of diverse international talent. Therefore, the festival participants were so unusual and extraordinary in sound. The Festival had a 31-day tour, that performed 26 concerts in 16 states and Alberta, Canada. Highlights included New York City’s Jazz at Lincoln Center; Los Angeles’ Walt Disney Concert Hall; Berkeley’s Cal Performances; Chicago’s Symphony Center; Calgary Canada’s Jack Singer Concert Hall; and many others. My concert review is based on a concert that took place on March 15th in New York inside The Appel Room, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Frederick P. Rose Hall. I would like to admit that The Appel Room creates an amazing vibe, even though it has not huge capacity is a great venue with state-of-the-art sound, an unbeatable view. The Festival leader was a band of six individually acclaimed performers from the next generation of stars. Cécile McLorin Salvant is a genius vocalist who sells out every set she performs at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Bria Skonberg is an irresistible entertainer who “plays trumpet like a red hot devil and sings like a dream.” (The Wall Street Journal). Saxophonist Melissa Aldana is the first female instrumentalist ever to win the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition. Rounding out the band is music director and virtuoso pianist Christian Sands. Yasushi Nakamura is one of New York’s most versatile and hard-swinging bassists. Drummer and vocalist Jamison Ross is another first-place winner of the Thelonious Monk Competition, and his roots in gospel, swinging jazz. Starting from the first song "Fog" which was written by Salvant, you can understand that the concert will be filled with many emotions. This song featured very slow and quiet intros and the mood of the music matches the dreamy lyrics of the melody very well. There were 6 songs in the performance, and I think the song “Sack Full of Dreams” that written by Jamison Ross makes a huge breakdown in the concert. This song has an enjoyable motive. Ross has a strong, expressive, and pliant tenor voice. Good background lines were provided by the saxophone and muted trumpet, while Nakamura had a good bass solo. The melody has a convincing structure; with contrasting sections supporting the main mood. For "dessert" the group presented the song “Yasugaloo”. Salvant began an encore. She started with a capella and no mic before everyone else joined her. This song ends an evening that was distinguished not only by the musical skill and a sense of adventure but also by uniting these talented people into a harmonious whole. I liked this concert. And not because I love listening to jazz, but because it was very harmonious and emotional. All the musicians performed like a well-coordinated mechanism. What surprised me the most is that after a little research, that all these people never played together in the same band. But even in spite of this, they were able to provide the listeners with incredible emotions. What a did not like about this concert - that all time that I was listening, I had a feeling that all those songs could be more energetic. I would give this concert a 7/10. The first reason, why not 10, is because I
