The World Health Organization confirms that Food and waterborne diarrheal diseases arising due to eating of contaminated vegetables had become a leading cause of mortality, causing approximately 1.8million deaths annually. Vegetables are at risk of contamination, often at all stages of handling such as vehicle exhaust and road dust during transport, polluted water used for moistening the vegetables, etc. Food handlers are often unlicensed, untrained in food hygiene practices and sanitation.
