DEFINING INTERSTATE SYSTEM • The modern world-system is structured politically as an interstate system – a system of competing and allying states. These include financial market instability, trade protectionism, sovereign debt crises, international and civil wars, humanitarian emergencies, flows of refugees, outbreaks of infectious diseases, climate change,and the development of poor nations.
