(5marks) Minimum wage The Employment Act requires employers in Kenya to pay minimum wages to their employees, including teaching staff in schools. As per Section 22 of the Act, the minimum wage varies across different sectors but should not be less than Kshs. 13,572 for the lowest category of employees. This provision affects the management of teaching staff in schools as it sets a minimum benchmark for their salaries and benefits. Working hours In Section 22 of the Employment Act stipulates the maximum number of working hours for employees in Kenya. This provision affects the management of teaching staff in schools as it sets limits on the number of hours they can work. The Act restricts teaching staff in schools to work for more than eight hours a day or 52 hours a week. Leave entitlements The Employment Act also sets out provisions for leave entitlements for employees in Kenya. As per Section 29 of the Act, employees are entitled to annual leave, sick leave, and maternity leave. This provision affects the management of teaching staff in schools as it sets out the minimum leave entitlements that should be provided to them. Termination of employment The Employment Act also provides for the termination of employment both by the employer and the employee. Health and safety The Employment Act also sets out provisions for health and safety of employees in Kenya.
