Customs of the Tagalog The Customs of the Tagalogs was written by Juan de Plasencia during the colonization of Spaniards in the Philippines. For how many years that Spaniards stayed in the Philippines Juan decided to write a book where he discussed what he observed in the Filipino cultures, beliefs, way of living of Filipinos, and their traditions. He first tackled the chief of Filipinos called Dato, what way of governance of dato and his way of living compared to commoner people. He also mentioned the difference in way of life of nobles, commoners, and slaves and the different beliefs and customs of Filipinos. There's a lot of things that Plasencia discussed in his document about the Filipino way of living and beliefs that if the people today read it especially the youngers may help them to know the customs of Tagalog. After reading this I realized that there is some custom of Tagalogs changes after the colonization of Spaniards to us, like the way of living of people before is very different now because before, your status in life is very apparent unlike today you don't recognize who is slaves and not because we don't usually label people in today's generations, moreover, now we have a right to speak out our complaints about the leader but before, your rights as a citizen are inconsiderate, it's so hard to fight your rights and it is also taboo to raise your complaints and your dismayed about the governance of datu, therefore, after reading this I realized how lucky we are because at least today we are free to move. In addition, some things discussed in the document about the customs of Tagalog is still existed today, like dowries, but you usually see this tradition in Muslim people, where the man who wants to marry a woman must give dowries to the parents of the woman. The documents describe the identity of Filipinos and trace the roots of the custom we observed now and where some customs and traditions before the Spanish conquest are still in today's generations The author's intent on the “Custom of Tagalog” is to provide the reader an impression of how people lived in those days. Society functions based on how life is labeled and treated according to status, whether it’s inhumane or not. Because the rights, prejudice, and abuse of persons who are designated as slaves are now wrong, but it was not in those days. The Maharlika, Commoners, and slaves all live in a society governed by a ruler who has the authority to order whatever he desires. The dato has a lot of power over the system and can simply manipulate it. If you are born into a Maharlika position, you are fortunate as opposed to being born into a slave status. To live a better life, luck plays a crucial role. “Worship of Tagalog” shows how good and evil had an impact on people's lives, whether. A person's beliefs
