CWV-101 Benchmark—Gospel Essentials Grand Canyon University CWV-101 Benchmark—Gospel Essentials A worldview is a base set of ideas and guidelines in how we view and interpret the world around us. An individual’s worldview is made up of many different beliefs. Those who have a Christian Worldview may have many beliefs that are not shared among all Christians. However, there are several that are essential to the Christian faith. The four that will be discussed within this paper are the Nature of God, Nature of Humanity, Nature of Jesus, and the Restoration. After these beliefs have been covered in detail, there will then be a summary for how these beliefs influence the Christian Worldview as well as how it impacts the lives of those who withhold this worldview. The conclusion will include how these beliefs have shaped my worldview and influenced how I view myself as well as others and how that impacts the way in which I view and interpret the world in which we live in. Nature of God We are taught God is also known as a Triune God, meaning that he is The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. Those that follow a Christian worldview will always and forever know God to be the creator of life. The very first words from the Bible states that “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1, NIV). On the second day of creation God brought the sky and atmosphere into existence followed by dry land and water, vegetation, the stars, and everything else beyond our world. He then soon created creatures to inhabit the water, the sky, and animals to roam the lands. Once he was satisfied with his work, he then created mankind in his image with the characteristics of being loving, merciful, and forgiving just as he is, beginning with Adam and Eve. God had given Adam and Eve free rein and authority over the Earth and all that inhabit it. After allowing them to live freely in the Garden of Eden, he gave them one command, and that was to not eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Eventually they both fell to temptation and disobeyed his one and only rule thus getting banned from the garden and entering a world full of sin. There is no question of God’s love for his children, but it also shows that he is and will always be determined to lead with discipline. “For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him” (Colossians 1:16, NIV). Nature of Humanity Mankind was created with the purpose of building a relationship with our Father and to prove our acceptance of his love or reject it. The many characteristics and behaviors that we hold as individuals are known to us as Human Nature. One of, if not the most important characteristic that all mankind has in common is that we were all created in the image of God. “Christ is the perfect example of human nature, and the fullest expression of God's intent for creation and humanity in particular, being both the image of God and the norm for true divinity and true humanity.” (O’Brien, 2019:7) Jesus Christ is a mighty powerful being that we confide in when living our lives. The sacrifices that Christ made for us (his children) were done intentionally because he was aware of that fact that our Human Nature would not always be what he expected. It is only natural that sin occurs, but it is up to us to seek forgiveness. Throughout our lives we will continuously be faced with struggles and hardships that will sometimes doubt the faith that we hold in the Lord. The thought that God has abandoned us, is one of the most common One of the strengths of the Christian worldview is that we do not live a life without meaning. The influence on the mind through the Christian worldview is that the view of the world around us is much greater than someone who does not believe in God. Christians view the world from a spiritual perspective, which influences them to live a life led by faith. The hardest part for non- believers to grasp is the belief in something we can not see. It is easier for people to deny the fact that God exists simply because they do not want to open their minds up to the fact that science does not explain everything. Conclusion In conclusion, the Christian worldview is put in place to keep a world full of balance. Jesus devoted his life so that his children would know that there was something to believe in. As a result of his selfless action, the world has adjusted in ways that would not be possible without. Many people have learned to let faith in the Lord be their guide through life. The focus for Christians is to follow Gods word and accept him as our one and only God. Though mankind might not always be perfect, it is possible for us to continue our journey on accepting and following Jesus Christ by seeking his forgiveness for the sins that we commit and rejoice in his name as we spread his word to the world. Eternal life is not something that everyone is guaranteed, it is something that we must work towards, fight for and pray for. References Cannon, M. E. (2017, May 28).
