Data Collection/Analysis Department of Nursing, Southern New Hampshire University NUR 506 Evidence Based Practice Data Collection/Analysis This week we were asked to review an article and determine what kind of analysis methods and data collection used. The article assigned was by Awoleke et al.(2015) o Ruptured tubal pregnancy: Predictors of delays in seeking and obtaining care in a Nigerian population?. This article was a study on tubal pregnancies that ruptured in Nigeria. The purpose was to determine what the reasons were for delay in seeking treatment for a ruptured tubal pregnancy (RTP). The researchers wanted to see if there was a predictor in why there was a delay. Evaluations for delays in treatments are rarely done in women with RTP in populations with limited resources. The researchers wanted to see if there was a predictor in why there was a delay. Evaluations for delays in treatments are rarely done in women with RTP in populations with limited resources. (Awoleke et al., 2015). Methods of Collection/Analysis The article described a retrospective study review of females with a ruptured tubal pregnancy(RTP) at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital in Nigeria. The time frame was 36 months starting in Jan 1,2011 to Dec 31,2013; and included a review of medical records from the maternity/gynecological wing of the hospital. Information gathered from the medical records included the clinical, sociodemographics, time symptoms started and when they went to get treatment(Awoleke et al., 2015, p. 142). The researchers used a three-phase delay framework by Thaddeus and Maine to determine what kind of delay in getting medical treatment the patient fell into. This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of EKSUTH. There is no information given about patient consent, so therefor one must assume all information was garnered from the patient’s medical record. I would consider this ethical, because patients who have dealt with an RTP or TP are very vulnerable after the ordeal and need to be handled with the utmost care. A
