Tanzimat Edebiyatı, a literary movement that started in 1860, marked a significant shift in Turkish literature as it moved away from traditional Divan literature towards Western culture and literary forms. This movement, which lasted until 1896, introduced new literary genres such as articles, novels, short stories, theater, memoirs, and criticism. The movement was influenced by French revolutionary writers, and its proponents aimed to promote concepts such as law, justice, freedom, equality, nation, and state. Tanzimat Edebiyatı can be divided into two periods, each with its own prominent figures and characteristics.
