Values Content/ Topic Expressionism: A Bold New Movement Learning Resources/ Materials/ Equipment Arts 10 Learner’s Material pages 203- 208 1. PowerPoint presentation 2. http://youtube.com/watch?v=dD5G9ZJFS9A Procedures Introductory Activity 10 mins. The teacher will assess what the students know or have experienced concerning expressionism using KWL Activity. The teacher will instruct the students to write what they Know in the first column, what they want to know in the second column, and what they have learned in the third column. (Third column will be filled up after the discussion). Activity 10 mins Gallery Walk 1. The class will be divided into five. Students will be instructed to be in their group in 10 seconds. 2. The teacher posted colored reproduction of expressionist artwork on the walls of the classroom with its title and artist’s name. 3. While staying in their group, the teacher will let the students observe the pictures posted on the wall and describe the artworks within 3 minutes. This is an individual activity hence; members of each group will be having different answers. 4. After 3 minutes, each group will settle in one place and will have brainstorming. Focus question: Are the artworks presented fit your ideas about modern art? Analysis 10 mins. (Optional) The teacher will instruct the students to read silently page 203 of the Arts 10 Learner’s Materials silently. The teacher will ask: 1. Based on the pictures presented, what is/are the general characteristic/s of expressionism? (Answer: More emotional force rather than with realistic or natural images/ Strong images and colors and expresses deep emotions/ Use of distorted outlines, applied strong colors, and exaggerated forms/ Work with imagination and feelings, rather than with what their eyes saw in physical world.) 2. The teacher may show a video presentation about expressionism with sample artworks for further understanding about this movement. http://youtube.com/watch?v=dD5G9ZJFS9A Abstraction 10 mins. 1. Is the name of the art movement “expressionism” familiar to you at all? If yes, what do you know about this movement? 2. Have you heard of the artistic styles known as Surrealism or Dadaism? 3. If yes, do you know of any famous artist who painted in these styles? 4. Would you like to own an artwork in expressionist style? Why or Why not? Application 15 mins. Panel Discussion Interview Each group will be asked by the teacher regarding their presented output. Questions may be/may not be based on their assigned movement to asses if they have mastered the assigned movement and/or they have listened to the presentation of the other groups.Assessment 10 mins. Assignment 2 mins. Extend Your Knowledge The teacher will give the instructions to the students. 1. With your groupmates, think a current issue in the society that you feel needs to be addressed. 2. Bring the following materials next meeting: - One whole sheet cartolina, acrylic paints, poster paints, or any available paints, markers, crayons, pastels, or colored pencils, #8 brush, scissors, glue or paste and pictures from magazines, newspaper, or calendars. 3. The materials will be used for the activity Create a Work of “Social Realism”.
