COUNSELEE: Good morning too, I’m sad. COUNSELOR: What makes you sad? COUNSELEE: I am sad because of my parents. They both work in abroad and they go home once a month and yet they greet each other with fight and they end up hurting each other. I am not used to this kind of environment, I feel empty and lonely now because I can only meet them once a month and yet they keep fighting about money and jealousy, they can’t even greet me in my room and ask how am I doing in school and in our house, if I’m still okay or not. They are not like this before they got their work. COUNSELOR: Oh, I see. So you’re sad because your parents keep fighting in your house and it seems to me that you’re not gaining their attention most of the time. Am I right? COUNSELEE: Yes, you’re right, they can’t make quality time for our family because they get home most of the time late at night, and fight in the morning. Even in our dining table, they keep fighting and it makes me really sad and uncomfortable. I always cry at night because I wish they can make it up to each other and put an end to their fights. COUNSELOR: Mmm, if you don’t mind me asking, what are your parents’ reactions if they see you when they know that you are seeing them fight? COUNSELEE: They are just telling me to get in my room and after that, they continue fighting. COUNSELOR: I’m just wondering if how affected you are when they fight? COUNSELEE: I am very affected because I am their only child and I don’t have someone to talk to in our home. I just cry and comfort myself whenever I am very lonely. COUNSELOR: You look like a super hero to me, you are battling with sadness all by yourself because you don’t have someone to talk to but you are here today bravely sharing your story. You’re amazing! COUNSELEE: (smiles.. pause) mmh, not so, but thanks! COUNSELOR: What are your coping mechanisms in order to relieve yourself? COUNSELEE: I just listen to music and pray. COUNSELOR: If God would grant your wish and bring peace to your parents, what will be happening that is different? COUNSELEE: Of course, I would be very happy and my family can be open to each other and bonds together. COUNSELOR: Have you experienced hanging out with your parents? COUNSELEE: Yes, we did it before, when my father only works abroad and my mother stayed home with me. Whenever dad gets home, we will eat in the restaurant and roam around in malls. COUNSELOR: Oh I see that’s fantastic. Now if you’re going to rate your experience before and your current situation now, what would be the best? COUNSELEE: My experience before is the best. I am longing for that to happen again.
