Upon watching and knowing every details of his life story, firstly, I saw his vision towards our country that someday, our Motherland will attain its freedom from Spain and in order for that to happen, there must be someone who has the ability to awaken and influence the Filipinos to cut the tie that connected them to the Spaniards. In this trait of Rizal, it taught me to not let my life be ruled by anyone. It taught me to live with the love of country and its countrymen and those we can live independently. Dr. Jose Rizal possessed these characters that every Filipino must aspire to be. In the modern-day generation, the youth values more on the things that give them trivial and fleeting pleasure they only think about themselves and neglect the things that could help their society. In contrast, Dr. Rizal was a man for others and in fact died serving his country. This was because he had discipline, he had steadfast faith in God and he was patriotic throughout his life. Dr. Rizal was a disciplined man in plenty of ways but for me, his discipline in his studies is the most inspiring. Starting when he was still a child until he graduated and even when he was already pursuing ophthalmology, he showed that learning does not end in school. Moreover, by studying different fields like music, art, martial arts, fencing, linguistics, science, literature and many others, he showed that one should never tire of learning. Additionally, it was because of learning that he showed his discipline in studying, and demonstrated that if someone is focused and determined to acquire knowledge, then he will be able to learn and accomplish whatever he wishes to attain. All of his accomplishments could not have been possible if he was not a man of discipline himself. Thus, he proved to us that discipline is a key to learning and success in studies. Faith in God was also a part of the life of Dr. Rizal that was most tested. The trials that he stumbled across each day in his mission to liberate his fellowmen from the Spanish tyranny, were a strong evidence that put a strain on his faith yet he still remained faithful to God. Moreover, despite the fact that he had already learned a great number of things about the world which could have disproved the existence of a god, he never lost his faith. Even in times when he had to choose between his religion and a woman, he adamantly refused to abandon his Catholic faith knowing fully well that he would ultimately lose the woman he loved. Such conviction only confirms that Dr. Rizal had so much faith and dedication to God that every person should possess undeterred by the trials and the failures, they would still choose to believe that God has a purpose for everything that has transpired. Our national hero, would not be called a hero if not for the fact that he had immense patriotism and unwavering love for his country in his blood. Dr. Rizal showed his love for our country by doing all the means he could devise to free his oppressed countrymen. He left his family in the Philippines just so he could pursue his secret mission in Europe. He endured the pain, emotionally and physically, just to accomplish what he thought was best for his fellowmen. He fought for what was right even if that would sign his own death warrant. Dr. Rizal’s whole life basically is a testament to patriotism. For a student like I am, I know I would never achieve such likeness, but I know I could strive harder and do the best I could in doing the things which would help this country of mine from the ever-dominating force of social ills. The life of
