It includes dishwashing liquid, alcohol, distilled water, salt, two empty glasses, grinder, fork, knife, banana, and clean filter paper or cloth. Figure 2. Mix the banana and water in a small grinder or blender. Blend it until the banana is pulverized. If there is no grinder or blender available inside the house, banana can be smashed with mortar and pestle. After smashing, it can be added to water then stirred gently. The banana should be smashed in order to thoroughly extract the DNA from it. Figure 3. Add 1 teaspoon of the dishwashing liquid, ¼ teaspoon of salt, and 2 tablespoons of water in an empty glass. After creating the precipitating solution, the banana solution is added to it. The precipitating solution contains sodium laurel sulfate which breaks fats and proteins. The dishwashing liquid is responsible for the pulling of fats and proteins from the cellular membrane. After membrane has been broken, DNA will be released then stabilized by the salt to resist the separation of individual strands. Figure 4. After the release of DNA from the cell, the mixed solution was stirred carefully. After stirring, the solution was filtered using a clean cloth or a filter paper. Few minutes was waited after the solution has been completely filtered with pure liquid filtrate remaining.
