EDU 696 Supporting Diversity through 21St Century Teaching and Learning EDU 696: Capstone 2: Culminative Project “The MASE graduate plans cross-disciplinary learning experiences that promote individualized academic and social abilities, attitudes, values, interests, and career options for students with exceptionalities” (Ashford University, 2019). As teachers one should propose all learning practices that convene the needs of all learners. Once teachers design a significant activity, it can improve children’s education and upsurge motivation and advance interactive skills. Teachers should incorporate the 21st century abilities to be fruitful in school and elsewhere. For students to be fruitful, educators need to stress on parts such as life and career; learning and innovation; and information, media and technology (Newman, 2013). For this lesson plan I have included 21st century skill learning and innovation skills: communication, critical thinking, collaborations, and creativity. Redesign Outcome This restructure lesson plan is from my ECE 642 Quality Curriculum in Early Childhood Education. I decided to create this lesson plan based on students being able to develop new vocabulary words describing student’s emotions. My lesson plan supports 21st century skills through learning and innovation skills: communication, critical thinking, collaborations, and creativity. Learners will be able to recognize and learn as a minimum three new vocabulary words communicating their feelings and collaborating their moods to their peers. Students will be anticipated to gather three new words; students will be expected to describe their feelings as well as to their peer. Students will creatively act out a play that conveys feelings and at the end of the lesson. Learners will also have new knowledge of expressing their emotions. The materials that will be use are book, journals, crayons, emotions memory game, so students are critical thinking. When this lesson is introduced, I will explain to the students that we are going to be building a word wall. We will be using different vocabulary words to describe emotions. I will read a book to students during large group time, we will discuss words that we heard that will be added to our word wall. To differentiate instruction teachers will read the selected text over. Teachers will also read a variety of different books which will include cut and paste emotions activity, sing songs, incorporate children interest like more games, physical, etc. to show children interest. The assessment for this lesson is through guided practice: think and pair. I will ask students a question about the story, students will be given time to think of their answer, have them write it down then they would be pair with a partner to discuss problem more. Students will also be given independent practice activities. Teachers will send home vocabulary worksheets home. Parent projects will be included. Parents will be involved in acting out skit with children to enhanced creativity and collaborations. The closing of the lesson would be for students and their partners to share their thoughts and ideas about the emptions they have learned about. The lesson plan supports 21st century skill learning and innovation skills. Redesign – Support Systems
