Therefore, the site of action of alcohol in the body is the brain. It depresses the activity of certain functions of the brain. As such, alcohol is classified as a central nervous system depressant. Comparing young people today with previous generations reveals that there has been little change in the proportion who consume alcohol or in the average volume consumed by youngsters (Department of Health, 2005) Smith and Folcroft) In fact, young people brain keep developing well in their is Alcohol can alter this development, potentially affecting both brain structure and function. This may cause cognitive or learning problems and or make the brain more prone to alcohol dependence. This is especially a risk when people start drinking young and drinking heavily. Eva Cyhlarova says that over time, heavy drinking interferes the neurotransmitters in the brain that are needed for good mental health. So while alcohol may help deal with stress in the short term, in the long run it can contribute to feeling of depression and anxiety and makes stress harder to deal with People who drink heavily are more likely to suffer from health problems. The junior high academic state of performance in which the focus is in cognitive aspects somewhat degrading as what we’ve heard people saying something about it. Would it be that student’s alcoholism has a great contribution to the status of the junior high school academic performance. Students drinking poses a range of risks and negative consequences and our main concern is the impact that it brings to their academic performance. Along many issues regarding junior high school student’s alcoholism, we aim to determine its effects on their academic performances. We aim to see the differences of our respondents grades before and during they engage in alcohol use. We sought and strive to investigate this situation for us to formulate better understandings because it would lead us to formulate various STATE OF THE PROBLEM This study aims to determine the different Effects of Grade 10 or Junior High School student’s Alcoholism on the Academic Performance in Rizal High School. CHAPTER 2 Our General topic is What are the Effect of Alcoholic Drinking on Gr.10 students here at Rizal High School. Then we bought our sources under discussion at Department of Health 2005 Smith and Folcroft. In fact, young people brain keep developing well in their is Alcohol can alter this development, potentially affecting both brain structure and function. Also Dr. Eva Cyhlarova says that over time, heavy drinking interferes the neurotransmitters in the brain that are needed for good mental health. Conducted a study with 58 alcoholic patients about to be discharged from hospital detoxification units, to investigate the conditions under which a person will arrive at a satisfactory decision and adhere to it. Experimental Ss participated in small group sessions for 2 consecutive days in which (a) there were discussions and role-playing sessions of the gains and losses of drinking and (b) an explicit or assumed decision was made about drinking in the future. In the control condition Ss received only the regular treatment offered by the hospital. Prior to discharge from the hospital experimental Ss were more optimistic than were controls about their future. 1 mo. after discharge, experimental Ss reported feeling better and drinking less than the controls, indicating that decision-making appears to be relevant to alcoholics. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved) Teenage is a time of transition involving multi-dimensional changes. This is therefore a critical period of capacity development and one of heightened vulnerability and risk. Drinking of alcohol among teenagers constitutes one of the most significant risk behaviors engaged in by teens (Johnston, O’Malley, and Bachman, 2002). A study done by Poikolainen K. et al in 2001 revealed that there is a relationship between the age of initiation of alcohol use and the pattern of its use and abuse in adulthood emphasizing that intervention during this stage of development is crucial. Furthermore, despite the number of international researches done on alcohol use and pattern of drinking, there was no universal format followed. It is worth reviewing for, because this gives us information and facts that are really useful specially when it comes to health most of the students nowadays are drinking alcoholic beverages which is inappropriate to our health specially to minors like me this literature conducts and informs people about the bad effects of alcoholic beverages in our body and also based on the survey that too many people were hospitalized because of drinking alcoholic beverages and these alcoholic beverages are also affecting our brain which is not good. So the purpose of this literature is to inform people specially my fellow students who are drinking alcoholic beverages to stop or at least lessen the amount of alcohol that they're drinking and for us also to prevent our health for any harm cause by alcoholic substances. Alcohol consumption, the drinking of beverages containing ethyl alcohol. Alcoholic beverages are consumed largely for their physiological and psychological effects, but they are often consumed within specific social contexts and may even be a part of religious practices. Because of the effects that alcohol has on the body and on behavior, governments often regulate its use. (Mark Keller, George E. VALLIANT, 2010) Drinking beer, one of the most popular alcohol in the Philippines, is a significant part of many Filipinos’ lives. It can be a great (temporary) remedy to mend your broken heart, as you have a heart-to-heart talk with your close friends and relatives, to somewhat ease your pain. Moreover, having a pint of this drink is a great way to start your weekend with your officemates, as you guys mark the end of another productive week at work. Copyright ©2020 Alcoline Corporation MANILA, Philippines — With proposed tax hikes on alcohol products set to be debated by Congress, more than half of the country’s adult population were found to be consuming large quantities of alcohol, a study by the Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Institute (DOST-FNRI) found. Rainier Allan Ronda 2019. As children move from adolescence to young adulthood, they encounter dramatic physical, emotional, and lifestyle changes. Developmental transitions, such as puberty and increasing independence, have been associated with alcohol use. So in a sense, just being an adolescent may be a key risk factor not only for starting to drink but also for drinking dangerously. A largely unaddressed issue in lower income countries and the Philippines, in particular, is the role of alcohol marketing and its potential link to early alcohol use among youth. This study examines the associations between exposures to alcohol marketing and Filipino youths’ drinking prevalence and drunkenness. The main contribution of these are the information which gives us knowledge on how much alcohol affects the academic performances of students specifically the junior high school students here at Rizal High School which is very naive in this things nowadays teenagers were influenced by their peers and this make them feel that they belong in the society cause they think that engaging in this activities with their peers will make a strong relationship to the society but they didn’t think about the bad effects of this substance to their health commonly our human brain which can be dependent in alcoholic substance once its tolerated maybe alcohols can be depressants but its improper to see youth which are using alcohol. Alcoholic beverages doesn’t contribute anything good in our health specifically to students who use this substance. The contribution of this literature is having knowledge in the effects of alcohol not only to the health of students but also to their academic performances in their schools. This paper examines the effects of alcohol use on high school students’ quality of learning. We estimate fixed-effects models using data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health. Our primary measure of academic achievement is the student’s GPA abstracted from official school transcripts. We find that increases in alcohol consumption result in small yet statistically significant reductions in GPA for male students and in statistically non-significant changes for females. For females, however, higher levels of drinking result in self- reported academic difficulty. The fixed-effects results are substantially smaller than OLS estimates, underscoring the importance of addressing unobserved individual heterogeneity. JEL Classifications: I12, J24
