OBJECTIVES The objective of this experiment is to build an inverting and non-inverting amplifier circuit using the μ741 operational amplifier to get a deeper understanding of how op-amps work and how we can construct their circuits. Circuit components/Equipment:  741 op-amp  DC power supply  Oscilloscope  Functional generator  DMM  Resistors Theory and Experimental Methods An operational amplifier can be used to build various circuits to perform various mathematical operations. Addition, subtraction, integration, differentiation, amplification etc among them that's why we call them as OP Amps. The circuit model of an amplifier is shown in Figure 1 (center dashed box, with an input port and an output port). The input port plays a passive role, producing no voltage of its own, and is modeled by a resistive element Ri called the input resistance. PROCEDURE  Inverting Amplifier:  Set up the circuit as shown in Figure 3. The circuit gives a closed loop gain  This gain is very small compared to the open loop gain of the op-amp.  Test the circuit by applying the input signal of suitable amplitude (say 1V peak to peak) from a function generator.  Observe the output waveform on the CRO and determine actual gain.  Non-inverting Amplifier:  The circuit of a non-inverting amplifier is shown in Fig 4. Its closed loop gain is  The circuit is tested by applying the input signal of suitable amplitude (say 1V peak to peak) from a function generator.  Observe the output waveform on the CRO and determine actual gain. 7 | P a g e Experiment NO.3 Inverting and non-inverting Op-Amp.
