ECE 4300/5950 ELECTRIC POWER SYSTEMS SPRING 09 HW #2 DUE: 02/02/08 NOTE**: There are answers to some of the problems at the end of the textbook. To get full credit, you must show how you got your answers or you will receive ZERO score. 1. A large industrial plant is supplied from the utility 138-kV system. The actual plant load is 65 MW, 0.91 lagging power factor, at 134 kV. Using a base voltage of 138 kV and a base apparent power of 100 MVA, calculate the following: (a) Plant load in MVA. (b) Plant reactive power consumption in MVAr. (c) Line current in amperes. (d) Base current. (e) Line current in per unit. (f) Per unit voltage. (g) Real power consumption in per unit (h) Reactive power consumption in per unit (i) Apparent power consumption in per unit 2. Three zones of a single-phase circuit are identified in Fig. P2.1. The zones are connected by transformers T1 and T2, whose ratings are also shown. Use base values of 30 kVA and 240 volts in zone 1. (a) Determine the per-unit impedances. (b) Determine the per-unit source voltage. (c) Draw the per-unit circuit. Fig. P2.1 30 KVA 240/480 V Xeq = 0.1 p.u. 20 kVA 460/115 V Xeq = 0.10 p.u. Zone 3 Xline = 2 Ω Vs = 220/0o V Zone 1 Zload = 0.9 + j0.2 Ω Zone 2 T1 T2 3. Problem #3.16 pp. 101.
