If you already have an idea about what stand or position you are going to take, make sure that your position is well supported. Do a research for data, statistics, and evidences for supporting argument. Also, study the claim of your opposition so that you'll be teady for their counterattacks. 2. What evidence should you provide? Cite specific sources. I'll provide evidences such as statistics and scholarly articles from any academic journals such as WHO | (World Health Organization), Home (ansfoundation.org), J-Gate-Largest e- Journal Gateway | Journal Discovery Platform (igateplus.com) and www.unicef.org. Its main goal is to provide a strong argument which is supported by facts such as an article, statistics, and any other analyses in order to convince the audience to believe with their side. Global Warming Did the writer provide background information of the topic? if YES, cite one line from the text; If NO, give your suggestion on what information should be given as the background information. No. | suggest that the author should give a brief overview of the topic and as to why his/her writing about is essential. What is the thesis statement? The cause of climate change is not human activity but changes in radiation from the sun, because there is no proof that the current warming is caused by the rise of greenhouse gases from human activity. Also, the current warming is likely a part of a natural cycle of climate warming and cooling that's been traced back almost a million years, and no one can show that a warmer climate would produce negative impact at all. BODY What counterclaims were provided by the author? Cite at least two. If there's non give your suggestion on what counterclaims should be given to improve the text. | didn't see any counterclaims in the paper. The author should have discuss some counterclaims like about the contribution of human activity in global warming. What are the arguments of the author? What evidence is provided? Argument 1: There is no proof that the current warming is caused by the rise of greenhouse gases from human activity. Evidence: Dire predictions of future warming are based almost entirely on computer climate models, yet these models do not accurately understand the role of water vapor- and in any case water vapor is not within our control. Argument 2: The current warming is likely a part of a natural cycle of climate warming and cooling that's been traced back almost a million years. Evidence: The best evidence supporting natural causes of temperature fluctuations are the changes in cloudiness, which correspond strongly with regular variations in solar activity. It accounts for the Medieval Warm Period around 1100 A.D., when the Vikings settled Greenland and grew crops. Argument 3: No one can show that a warmer climate would produce negative impact at all. Evidence: The rise in sea level does not depend on the changes of temperature. In fact, many economists argue that the opposite is more likely- that warming produces a net benefit, that it increases income and standard living. Claims: 1. Same-sex marriage as an equal right. 2. Same-sex marriage as a union of love. 3. Same-sex marriage as a positive message. Thesis Statement: Same-sex marriage should be legalized in the Philippines for the following reasons: Same-sex marriage as an equal right, same-sex marriage as a union of love, and same-sex marriage as a positive message. Should Same-sex Marriage Be Legalized in the Philippines? Same-sex marriage is defined as the union of two individuals of the same sex in the marital relationship with full legal rights and responsibilities given to this contract in a specific jurisdiction. It is the subject of debate and the controversy of numerous experts as of today. The practice of homosexual marriage is not a recent event as it has been around during the Greek and Roman period. This type of marriage is only limited to the minority of jurisdictions in a few countries in which it is available. Countries in which same-sex marriage is allowed include Norway, South Africa, France, England and the most recent countries are Ireland and United States of America. Now there is a question that has been long debated by lawmakers, activists, and the church; should same-sex marriage be legalized in the Philippines? Same-sex marriage should be legalized for the following reasons: Same-sex marriage as an equal right, same-sex marriage as a union of love, and same-sex marriage as a positive message. An equal right is the guarantee of rights for all people regardless of gender. To understand the word gender, it should not be interchanged with sex. Sex is the category of most living things on the basis of their reproductive functions. Gender, on the other hand, is a spectrum. It is determined by how a person experiences his body, identity, and expression. In 2015, the University of Maryland medical center/School of Medicine developed a research pointing to the brain as playing a key role in how people experience genders. According to their study, a person's gender goes beyond one's reproductive organ. The LGBTQ community should not be forbidden of same-sex marriage because of their sex and gender because the statement itself says: equal rights for people regardless of gender. The purpose of marriage should not be limited to procreation. If the sole purpose of marriage is to reproduce, then the marriages of infertile couples are illegitimate. The basis for marriage that unifies two people is love and not the capacity to produce an offspring. Same sex couples should be granted the opportunity to marry whilst also having the procreation of the law. Same-sex marriage is a civil matter and not a church matter. If it is unconstitutional to deny Filipino citizens of their rights then to deny the LGBTQ Filipinos of their rights is also unconstitutional. The world is constantly changing and in order for the government to be progressive, the laws should follow the inevitable changes of the society. The government should realize that it is a violation of rights to deny its people their freedom. Second, love is involuntary. Love comes in all forms. According to Goodwin, “Love has no gender. The energy of love is neither masculine nor feminine. A person's sexual preference should not limit their right to love and marry. Marriage as a union of love is the purpose and meaning for which it is created. Marriage celebration of love between two people. Same-sex marriage should not be known otherwise. Love knows no gender and anybody should be able to freely choose who to spend their life with. Same-sex couples should have the right to be recognized as married in order for them to live life with authenticity and integrity. Love is naturally complicated and diverse. There is no limit when it comes to love and nothing is unnatural to it. Nobody manages who the heart captures and that is thought that should bear in the minds of everyone. Marriage should be considered as the unification of two souls regardless of sexual orientation. Lastly, “Why is it that as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?” (Gaines). Instead of forbidding same-sex marriage and sending out messages of discrimination and prejudice, the government must align its principles to the positive message it brings. Same-sex marriages send out a positive message of acceptance, diversity, and inclusivity. It allows humans to seek their own individuality without being subject to judgement. Ending the discrimination to same-sex couples allows for the fulfillment of their souls and makes their lives better. Same-sex marriage as a positive message should be considered because it does more than advantage than harm. It is understood that in our predominantly Catholic country, marriage is traditionally defined as between a man and a woman. It is also against the church doctrine to uphold the same-sex marriage. However, we must consider that the church should not interfere with the proceedings of a secular institution. The church may wish to decline marrying a same-sex couple but they should not dictate the marriage laws made for the society at large. Marriage is a civil right. In conclusion, same-sex marriage should not be forbidden for it is in the constitution that all citizens of the country must not be deprived of life, liberty, and property. Our country should grant the LGBTQ their proper rights in order to be able to regulate the society. All people should be able to have an option to marry, have the chance to start a life-long partnership, and start a family. In the next few years, as acceptance grows, our country would be able to build a solidified group of people who are in harmony with their land. People must always remember that “At the end of the day, you should love whoever you want, because no one should be able to dictate who to love.” (Green, 2018). Same-sex marriage should be legalized because same- sex marriage is an equal right, same-sex marriage is a union of love, and same-sex marriage sends a positive message. Additional Activities Issue: Legalization of Abortion Title: Abortion Should Be Legalized First claim: Abortion should be legalized because it supports the principal human rights for women by giving them a decision or a choice. It decreases wrong doings by diminishing the number of children growing up non-ideal conditions. My Comment: Although it is said that abortion is beneficial to women, still a man and a woman are both active in causing unplanned pregnancy should be reminded that they have to be responsible in whatever sexual activities they had committed. Second claim: Bringing up a kid isn't a simple task and requires a social and emotional responsibilities combined with financial resources. On the off chance that we as people don't be able to give a child a sound life; then the point of bringing them into this world would only cause parts more issues that ought to have never emitted in any case. My Comment: This claim seems trying to point out that abortion is also beneficial for the unwanted children. However, it seems to me like this is another way of tolerating those people who were engaged with premarital sex and unwanted pregnancy. Their actions must not be tolerated and must be thought that intentionally killing an unborn child is against religious morality, unless it is accidental. Third claim: The Bible not even once explicitly denies abortion. In fact, it's actually the Opposite. Not exclusively were methods for abortion surely understood at the time, there are occasions when the Bible stated God commands that one occurs. The examples are found in Genesis 38 “Tamar: Killing as Undesirable Pregnancy.” In this story, the Bible says that slaughtering an unborn kid is important when it is anything but a child conceived in a manner the mother’s society's needs. My Comment: This claim somehow gives a different interpretation compared to what is the message of Bible. The Bible actually said, “... so whenever he slept with his brother's wife, he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from providing offspring for his brother’, which means that there is no pregnancy that happened. So basically, there's no abortion that occurred and so this claim is not related to the topic.
