Title: Beauty Standards Characters: 1. Titinbay – Host 2. Pavithiraa – Speaker 1 3. Thanusha – Speaker 2 4. Durgasuany – Speaker 3 5. Ramiya – Speaker 4 6. Priyangka – Speaker 5 Script (ADVERB (TURQUOISE) ADJECTIVE (PURPLE) Host (Titinbay): Hello listeners and watchers, welcome to our podcast Girl Talk with 5 beautiful girls with us today!! I’m Titinbay, your friendly host and my girls will be introducing themselves now. Speaker 1(Pavithiraa): Hello everyone, my name is Pavithiraa. Speaker 2(Thanusha): Hey guys, I’m Thanusha. Speaker 3(Durgasuany): Hello I’m Durga. Speaker 4(Ramiya): Hey guys, I’m Ramiya Speaker 5(Priyangka): Hi, I’m Priyangka Host (Titinbay): Girls let’s begin, when I say beauty standards right, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? All Speakers: Toxic! Unrealistic ! Dangerous! Harmful! Unreachable! Problematic! Host (Titinbay): Beauty standards differ all around the world as society has their own glorification of physical attractiveness. So, when we say perfect, what does a perfect body look like in general today? Speaker 5 (Priyangka): For women, the ideal is either a very thin supermodel look, or an impossibly voluptuous figure. Men, on the other hand, may have to contend with ideals that demand muscularity or extreme thinness or both. You may be nodding your head at this point 5 because you are aware of these ideals. If you are like most people, you have been criticized by others–or you may have criticized yourself–for being too fat or too thin or for simply not fitting the standard. Host (Titinbay): Absolutely right!! i will be listing out all the so called perfect features women desire nowadays which includes starting from head to toe, shiny straight hair, coloured fox eyes, defined jawline, plump lips, flawless skin with no signs of acne and wrinkles, hourglass body without stretch marks or cellulite. I know it all sounds ridiculous but it’s the harsh reality, now if you don't mind me asking y’all … Host (Titinbay): What are the insecurities that you struggle with? Have you ever felt that your body has flaws and do you want to fix it? Speaker 1 (Pavithiraa): Dark circles are a prevalent complaint among Indian women, as darker skin contains more melanin, making dark circles and other pigmentation more noticeable and difficult to treat than in White skin. I have faced the dark circle problem since I was young. Everyone will misunderstand me as im having a dark circle just because im not having enough sleep. It’s hard to have flaws and face all the consequences because of it. Every time I try to be confident with myself, there will be some people pointing out my flaws whenever they see me. Host (Titinbay): I totally understand how you’re feeling. People point out other people's flaws due to their lack of confidence and low self-esteem. We should not take their comment personally as it would affect our mental health. Now what about you priyangka? Speaker 5 (Priyangka): My body type is neither perfect nor even close to that. I've spent years blaming myself, yet I'm stuck with what I've got and can't change it. It doesn't mean I should modify my attire to be all long and hide my forms, or undergo cosmetic or plastic surgery. I can, but I choose not to. I'm living my life, and I don't actually care if someone tells me my hips are too large for a short skirt. It's their opinion, but it has nothing to do with what I believe. So, why should I feel guilty? 6 Speaker 3 (Durgasuany): Yes true priyangka, you don't have to be guilty, you are just being yourself. Chubby fingers, short legs, snub nose, wide hips, broad shoulders, any lip type, if they aren't perfect, wrinkles, eyebag, tummy, stretch marks, and everything else aren't reasons to believe we're less than society expects us to be in order to fit in. Some of us are attempting to be better in order to be liked, but that isn't how it should work. Personally, what I learnt is I can't help being not good enough for myself when I'm trying to be better for someone. We should be inspired by beautiful women who appreciate their shapes. Host (Titinbay): That’s right girl. So, when we say that these toxic standards are unattainable and unreachable. Why are beauty standards so high nowadays? Speaker 4 (Ramiya): Hmm I feel like they're actually lower than in previous years. People may argue that they have gotten harsher as a result of social media. That isn't really true. Many people who are considered beautiful have attainable beauty or have plastic surgery. Charli D'Amelio, for example, is gorgeous, but she resembles a few other girls I know. That is not hatred; it is simply the way things are. Kim Kardashian West was stunning before surgery, but she really took off after making changes to her appearance. Host (Titinbay): Okay, I see you mentioned plastic/ cosmetic surgery. What actually is plastic/cosmetic surgery? Do you think that it really solves the underlying problem of poor body image? Speaker 5 (Priyangka): There are hundreds of procedures available that can transform body parts and facial characteristics alike. Cosmetic surgery may appear to be a physical solution to change something about one's appearance that one dislikes, but it will not help a person heal from mental pain and distress. The focus remains set on physical ways in which a person can transform himself or herself in a world where it is simpler to mend your physical look than it is to tend to your emotional needs. Speaker 2 (Thanusha): The use of cosmetic surgery is becoming more common. Getting "work done" gets more accessible and acceptable year after year. To put it another way, we're getting 7 Speaker 4 (Ramiya): Camila Cabello's paparazzi images were recently released on the internet. Camila was just enjoying a wonderful warm day on the beach in a bikini, which is very normal for a 24-year-old lady. She's just so natural and confident in her own skin but the public disagreed with that. Body shaming came from all angles, they were attacking her extra stomach fat and stretch marks. These are all normal for a woman to have, but society couldn't take it because they aren't used to seeing natural bodies. (Body Size Diversity and Acceptance) Host (Titinbay): Okay now since you’ve mentioned natural. How does social media affect people's conception of beauty? Speaker 2(Thanusha): With the development of photo-editing technology through apps like Bodytune, Airbush. The level of body "perfection" that was previously only visible in celebrity or beauty magazines but now it has expanded across social media. People's conceptions of a perfect body is shifting around the world as these images become more common, which might affect a person's self-esteem and lead them to anorexia in the name of having a slim body. Host (Titinbay): What are society's messages about body image? Speaker 5(Priyangka): Society’s messages about body image are generally shaped by the media, the beauty industry and outdated notions of health and fitness. These messages define body shape and size as targets for regulation and control. Ironically, a majority of media photos that portray individuals with perfect bodies (who may actually be seriously underweight) are enhanced by modern technology to achieve the effect. At best, such figures may be natural for only a small percentage of the population. Host (Titinbay): What one advice would you like to give our listeners about the unrealistic beauty standards? 10 Speaker 2(Thanusha): Women's societal expectations are excessively high, and they must no longer be imposed on us. These ridiculous portrayals of how you should look can easily lead to body dysmorphia and low self-esteem, especially if you've never been taught to accept yourself from the start. Why are women subjected to images that are imposed on them? Why are there images forced onto women? We should love ourselves as we are imperfections in all. Host (Titinbay): Absolutely true!!! Alright we have come to the end of girls talk. Thank you, girls, for sharing your thoughts and opinions on beauty standards. Let’s normalize teaching people around it’s not about beauty. Teach them to be bold, confident and intelligent. Let them be real in this fake world! All speakers: Love this conversation, thank you for allowing us to share our thoughts, glad to hear and share our thoughts Host (Titinbay): Thank you once again for sparing your time for this podcast. Signing off once again your friendly host, Titinbay in my podcast Girls Talk!!!See you next time, bye-bye! 11 Grammar components Adverb: 1. Now 2. So 3. very 4. impossibly 5. too 6. simply 7. not 8.
