Development Nouns are grouped in their quantities Singular Nouns – refers to one person, animal, place, thing, or event Examples: apple, tree, plate, bag, dog Plural Nouns – nouns that mean more than one Examples: pencils, pens, bags, trees REGULAR NOUNS - The plural form of these nouns was written by adding -s or -es. Examples: tomato – tomatoes cow cows fly – flies brush - brushes Rules in Plural Regular Nouns 1. Most nouns add s to form plural. 2. Nouns that ends with sh, ch, x, z, or s and -es. 3. Nouns that ends with vowel + y, add -s. 4. Nouns that ends with consonants + y, change y to i and add - es. 5. Nouns that ends with f or fe, change f or fe to v and add -es. 6. Some nouns that ends with f or fe, form plural by adding -s. 8. Nouns that ends with ff, add -s. 9. Nouns that ends with vowel + o, add -s. 10. Nouns that ends with consonant + o, add -es. IRREGULAR NOUNS - These nouns need to change its spelling to get its plural form, but some of it do not need to. Examples: man – men tuna – tuna child – children salmon – salmon Rules in Plural Irregular Nouns 1. To get the plural form of irregular nouns, change their spelling. 2. To form their plural, some nouns do not change their spelling.
