We watched videos, discussed different groups we belong to, and wrote our brainstorming in the form of a chart to help us understand the make-up of our different discourse communities. How we talk, what we say, and who we communicate with all affect our daily interactions. Remember the video "Why words matter?" Albeit short, this video discusses the importance of the words we use. For this essay, I want you to think about 2 of your discourse communities that truly impact your personality. Write about how these two communities helped shape you today. The following questions are to guide you in your essay writing process: 1. Define: What is a discourse community? What is your discourse community composition? How is this group unique? From this section, I should be able to have a clear understanding of discourse communities in general and your own unique group. 2. Describe: Who are the members of your discourse community?
