FLEX TAPE The product is called Flex tape It is a very strong roll of tape that is waterproof and can easily hold things together tightly. The rhetorical device I saw most through them all, is Logos. The man in the commercial uses facts and logic by cutting a boat in half and sticking it back up with the tape and even USING the boat in water to show just how powerful flex tape really is. Also, Ethos is present as well. The man in the commercial explains the usefulness of a product, and shows it in several different ways. The commercial seems convincing to me because he clearly showed himself patching the boat up and using the patched up boat with the tape. He managed to ride the boat showing how flex tape is so powerful that it can fix a literal boat sawed in half. Through logos, ethos, and facts, I am convinced. 2. Grubhub (Delivery Dance) The product is an app called Grubhub, where you can order food online and it is delivered to your house. There are several different restaurants you can order from. The rhetorical device I saw most present in this ad was Pathos. The advertisement put in “Grubhub perks give you deals on the food you love. The kind of deals that make you boogie.” as a quote to connect to the audience and to make them laugh. They added animation and music and made the characters dance in the commercial as a way to get the viewers attention through their emotions. They probably thought the viewers would feel joy and groove to the music as well. Overall, no. The commercial does not seem convincing to me. Other than pathos, none of the other devices were really present. Even with pathos, rather than connecting to the viewer, the advertisement seemed a bit weird. They could have done a better job with getting the attention of the viewers by possibly adding music that was recognizable, adding in a bit of factual information, showing restaurants that you can order from, etc. I assumed that they did this to make people laugh or something. The ad isn’t really much except for a few animated people eating food and dancing, and I was cringing throughout all of it, and I couldn’t really tell if the app was reliable and good through that sequence. a. Old spice deodorant The product is a deodorant called old spice that is supposedly meant to make you smell like a man. The rhetorical devices I saw were mostly Ethos and Pathos. Ethos is present because in the commercial, a celebrity was present. Isaiah Mustafa who is an actor. Not to mention, that he assures the viewer multiple times
