DEFINITION 101 After Japanese opposition forces lead a successful rebellion against the tokugawa dynasty, the emperor meiji reevaluated the policy of isolationism and led a rapid education to 19th century technologies and knowledge. It immediately ended foreign extraterritoriality and other ramifications of unequal treaties and led to Japan dominating the Chinese navy in the Sino-Japanese war.
