Stephanie Curley EDUC 204 9/907 Autobiography I offend heard of a saying Teachers help to build great minds. Most of my life I always admire teachers. When I was growing up the teachers who were in my life were teachers with morals and class. They would be in front of the classroom with their high hill shoes and what looks like to me their Sunday’s best trying to get me to learn my time tables or making me read a book of some kind. Now, Since I have gotten a little older I can still hear some of the teachers saying words in my head: be all you can be, you can do anything you set your mind to do, never limit yourself, love yourself, respect yourselves, speak up for what is right, and always take a challenge. Those sayings still ring deep in my heart and I will never forget them. Now, Since I have decided to become a teacher. I told myself that is the kind of teacher I want to be one who can help impact and make a difference in a child’s life. My name is Stephanie Curley I was born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana. I am the second child of five children. Both of my parents did not finish high school but they instill in their children the importance of a good education. I went the private school from kindergarten up to the nine grade. I did go to public school for the first in my life as a sophomore and I did get a public school education. I was the first person in my family to graduate from high school. I felt a great accomplishment being the first to graduate not only was my parents proud but I was proud of myself. I went on to college. I did not know what to major in so I was into business my major was marketing. Then, I stay in Marketing for one semester. I decide to go into the college of Liberal Arts. I wanted to be in law. At first I did not like college. I guess being green and somewhat shy I did not like to socialize and that became a problem for me because by not getting involve there was a lot of things I was not aware of which really hurt my GPA. When, I left school back in 1993, I went to work for the Fruit of the Loom Factory in Crowley La. I made a lot of money. I enjoy the job because I made money until the manager of the plant told me something that made me think an in that particular moment I decide to go back to school. So, in the fall of 1994, I enroll back in school. I continue to work at the factory and went to school at night. When the factory closed down in 1996 I collected unemployment for six months then I went to work for Stuller’s Setting. Now, at Stuller Setting the money was not good so I knew that I would not stay long. I did not mind working hard but I had to make money. While, I was at Stuller’s Setting I graduate with an associate degree in Liberal Arts in 1999. Then, I left the factory life altogether. I decide to sub for the Lafayette Parish School Broad System. I wanted to see if I would like working with children. I went to a substitute meeting for subs. And, I remember the superintend said, “The best way to see if you would like working or teaching children is to sub for a year.” I became a substitute teacher for the parish back in 2000. Even, through the pay was not good I still enjoy working with the children. I would go back home and tell my friend about my day at school. I had so many stories about my experience. I love the drawings the students would give me I would go home and put the drawing on my refrigerator. I made myself a script book I put all the students pictures, letters, and poems in it. I enjoy the appreciation some of the students shows when I go into their classroom and help them. I believe no money can accomplish the faces of a child learning.
