In December 2019, there was a virus that started in China. This virus is called Covid-19. Every country has its process or production of a vaccine to fight this virus. Several vaccination clinical trials are now underway around the world, with four main trials in the United States. RNA and DNA vaccines, which are a new field of vaccine development, are among the prospective COVID-19 vaccines. The Food and Drug Administration issued emergency use authorization for a COVID19 mRNA vaccine co- developed by Pfizer and BioNTech on December 11, 2020. People aged 16 and up are allowed to utilize this in an emergency. Genetic vaccines, in contrast to vaccinations that involve recombinant bacteria or viruses, are made entirely of DNA (plasmids) or RNA (mRNA), which is taken up by cells and converted into protein. DNA or RNA vaccines have the same purpose but they act differently. Instead of injecting form of a virus into the body, DNA and RNA vaccines induce an immune response by using a portion of the pathogen's own genes. In other words, they contain the genetic instructions for making antigens in the host's cells. Both DNA and RNA vaccines deliver the message to the cell to create the desired protein so the immune system creates a response against this protein. Cifuentes-Kottkamp says that the DNA vaccine delivers the message via a small electrical pulse, which "literally pushes the message into the cell" The advantage is that this vaccine is very stable at higher temperatures. DNA and RNA vaccines are praised for their lower cost and ability to be developed faster than traditional protein vaccines. There is currently no DNA vaccine approved for human use, and there is still much to learn about its effectiveness. They are much closer to full approval and licensing now that two mRNA vaccines are in phase III trials and one has been approved for emergency use.
