Field Trip Reflection Classroom Activity Your students’ Field Trip with Inside the Outdoors will create many memories for them. A great way to capture these memories is in a writing reflection of their trip. SYNOPSIS Students will write an explanatory essay to describe their experience at their Inside the Outdoors Field Trip. OBJECTIVES Students will write an informative essay using accurate spelling, punctuation, and expressive vocabulary. The type of reflection could be directly connect to what they are learning in English Language Arts. MATERIALS • Journal or Field Trip Memories page • Pen/Pencil • Color pencils, crayons, or markers for their drawing PROCEDURE 1. After students have spent the day on their Field Trip, have them write about a memorable moment from the trip, share something they learned, or describe why they would like to go back to this Field Trip. 2. Have them complete this activity in their science journal or using the journal page provided below. 3. Have them draw a picture in the space to coincide with their thoughts. EXTENSION • Students may share their memories with each other in small groups or through individual oral reports. • Collect all the writing samples and bind them together to create a class scrapbook of students’ memories. • Focus the students writing on an NGSS Crosscutting Concept (such as patterns or structure and function). • Their drawing can be the start of a model to help them explain science concepts. • Share their memories with Inside the Outdoors via email or social media!
