Yes, there is a sense, because the two should always be integrated the Youth Ministry and Theology. If we going to distinguish between them is only for study. Both of them allow enrichment the other is “Informing the other is “A Continuous cycle’’ “WIN-WIN” or benefiting to each other. While studying youth ministry we gather information about our experience of God and how God leads us to his grace as He’s servants and disciples of Him. 2) According to you: Should a youth minister think both theologically and methodologically? Yes, both the youth minister think theologically and Methodology because our own Personal Theology has an effect on the method or everything we do in youth ministry. All we do relates to what we actually believe (Jay Kesler). Theology affects the method or the process we use in use ministry. 3) According to Michael Warren, when can a youth minister truly become flesh among the young people he serves? According to Michael Warren a Youth Minister truly become flesh among the young people he serves If He/She enters the lives of these specific people with limitations and gifts. He/She must have an eye, ear, and heart for them. If a minister tells of the deepest hope, the deepest hurts, the worst-deceptions the most cherished joys, and the unrealized potentials of those people they serve. If any minister knew and could speak of those matters in the people’s language, and images the minister is truly become flesh among the young people he serves. 4) In an ideal or theoretical situation, which one should be “first”? – Catechesis, or Evangelization? Explain your answer. In ideal and theoretical situations, Evangelization should be first before Catechesis because evangelization arouses or evokes initial faith and conversion towards maturity. Catechesis presupposes evangelization, while evangelization grounds catechesis. For catechesis to be fruitful, those being catechized must have been previously evangelized. 5) Explain any one of the three negative realities which we should be aware and careful of so that it doesn’t happen in our parishes (as given by “Prophets of Hope”). A. Pastoral Nearsightedness- when the church serves only those young people who attend parish activities, while ignoring other young people-Who tend to be the majority and most needy. B. EMPTY SACRAMENTALISM- When ritual and sacrament are overemphasized, such that young people experience the sacraments as empty rituals, question the religious value and connection of the sacraments to daily life, and finally abandon the sacraments altogether. C. PRIVATED AND IMPERSONAL FUCTIONALISM- When people concern themselves only with their own interests, thus encouraging a privatized relationship with God, which in ) turn generates a cold spirit and superficiality in Church. 6) What is the value of small groups (or small communities) in or for Youth Ministry? ➢ They avoid the ever-present temptation of systematic protest and a hypercritical attitude under the pretext of authenticity and a spirit of collaboration. ➢ They remain firmly attached to the Local Church in which they are inserted, and to the universal Church that avoid the real danger of becoming isolated with in themselves. ➢ They maintain a sincere communion with the pastors whom the Lord gives his Church. ➢ They never look on themselves as the “SOLE BENEFICIARIES” or SOLE agents of Evangelization. 7) Youth Ministry does essentially the same mission and concern of the Church as a whole, only that it is directed towards a special sector and carried out in a special kind of strategy or style. True, or False? Explain your answer. True because is the essentially ecclesial milieu of youth ministry to do and involve in the pastoral ministry of the Church although it is more specific and directed that use a special kind of strategy or style like in youth ministry in parochial School doing evangelization in out school youth etc. It would be unthinkable to conceive of Youth Ministry “as if it were a sector, isolated and walled-in, with respect to the totality of the Church’s pastoral work.” (Dizionario di Pastorale Giovanile) 8) Which among the following six names is “out-of-place”? (Explain the reason for your answer.) Riccardo Tonelli – involvement for youth A PRIEST a author of pastorale Giovanne George Boran- Author of the book for youth Ministry title “Youth Ministry that works” Luis Gallo- the Colombian American journalist. Speaker in Columbian youth Kendrick Perkins- an American former professional basketball player, who is a sports analyst for ESPN. He entered the NBA directly out of high school and played for the Boston Celtics, Oklahoma City Thunder, Cleveland Cavaliers, and New Orleans Pelicans, winning the NBA Championship in 2008 with the Celtics. Michael Warren- Youth, Gospel, Liberation by Michael Warren Kenda Creasy-Dean- is an ordained United Methodist pastor and the Mary D. Synnott Professor of Youth, Church and Culture at Princeton Theological Seminary. She works closely with Princeton's Institute for Youth Ministry and the Farminary (the seminary's initiative in restorative agriculture and theological formation). 9) Elaborate on the so-called “forgotten option of Puebla.” The preferential option for the young on the part of the Church (the so-called “forgotten option” of Puebla*) ❖ means that God the Father has “taken a look” upon the young, and asks that His Church do the same; ❖ means recognizing the love of God for the young and the confidence that He has put upon them; and, ❖ implies that the entire Church put her attention, preoccupation, and time precisely “there” where God has put His loving will (= “putting your money where your mouth is”) 18) Why is the study of Globalization useful for Youth Ministry? The study of Globalization is useful for Youth Ministry because “Globalization has vast implications for youth ministry because young people arguably constitute the population most affected by globalization.” Tremendous impact on the youth (directly or indirectly, for better or for worse!). Especially in the socio-cultural field. Even culture has become globalized! For instance, we find almost the same posters, songs, movies, playlists, TV shows (“canned” franchises = local versions), etc. for teens everywhere: whether in Rome, Port Moresby, Kuala Lumpur, Makati, Singapore, Cebu, Milan, Tel Aviv, HongKong, etc. (“cultural hegemony,” “McDonaldization,” etc.) 19) In your experience: Can the making of choices and decisions be stressful? Or difficult? Why? Depends upon the situation about choices and decisions if it is both good choices and both I like and both beneficial then yes there is a difficulty but when the choices between good and bad it is not difficult and stressful. As long as the choices bring us to God. 20) Enumerate all four dimensions of Youth Ministry (as given by the document A Vision of Youth Ministry). A. TO YOUTH – the Christian community exercising its pastoral role in meeting young people’s needs B. WITH YOUTH – young people sharing with adults a common responsibility to carry out the church’s mission C. BY YOUTH – young people exercising their own ministry to others D. FOR YOUTH – adult youth ministers attempting to interpret and advocate the needs and concerns of youth 21) Do you think James DiGiacomo SJ was right regarding his “Checklist of 10 Things which Religious Educators Must Tell the Young for the Next 25 Years”? (1993) Why or why not? 1. Consumerism is a shallow and ultimately unsatisfying way of life. 2. Religion is a community affair. We cannot do it alone. 3. The Eucharist is essential to the Christian life. 4. We cannot dismiss the Church and call ourselves Catholic. 5. God not only loves us but also makes demands. 6. Jesus is more than a pal. 7. Some of our moral choices may be wrong. 8. Premarital sex is not a right. 9. Working for social justice is not optional. 10. We must measure up to what God wants, not the other way around. Yes, He is right and it is actually happening right now. We need to tell the youth about this ten checklist. The 10 Checklist also is part of the culture of now a days that’s wht we need to inform them. 22) Why is it significant and crucial to target the so-called “gateway” groups in our youth ministry? • they are among the primary victims of change • they are unreached groups • they represent “gateway” groups for the youth population of the 21st century 23) Which of the Seven Youth Ministry Components (as given by A Vision of Youth Ministry) is your favorite? Why? A. Ministry of the Word B. Ministry of Worship C.
