Required Texts: Kaleidoskop, Sixth Edition, Kultur, Literatur und Grammatik. Boston: Moeller, Houghton, Mifflin. Kaleidoskop, Űbungsbuch, Sixth Edition. Allerlei zum Lesen, Teichert. Lexington, MA: D. C. Heath. Language of Instruction: German, with English used only in special technical expressions. Tests: There will be 5 quizzes, 2 tests, and I final examination. Grading: 5 Quizzes 20% 2 Tests 20% 1 Final examination 30% Class participation and attendance 20% Written homework 10% Total 100% Attendance All students are expected to attend class regularly, punctually, and well prepared. Those who miss more than two (2) class sessions must expect a possible grade reduction. If a student anticipates having to be absent from the class he/she should so inform the instructor in advance. In case of unexpected absence (emergencies) the instructor must also be contacted by the student who remains responsible for any work assigned and covered in class. Permission for taking make-up tests, allowed only in case of medically attested, personal illness or close family emergencies, must be requested from the instructor. Assignments: Specific assignments will be made in class concerning the material to be covered and the corresponding homework. Some of the assignments listed in the Syllabus under “Hausaufgaben” may be modified later. Selections shown in the Syllabus under “Lektüre” are to be found in the text Allerlei zum Lesen. Written assignments must be completed and submitted in a timely fashion, typed, and DOUBLE SPACED.
