They are able to get some on their side: Algonquin, Shawnee Native Americans know the land better than English soldiers. England begins to face defeat. English try to get unenthusiastic Native Americans on their side, offering lots of English goods. N/A's make them promise to protect their land from colonists. Oneida, Seneca, Mohawk TERM 6 Colonists Unite! - Albany Plan of Union DEFINITION 6 Benjamin Franklin proposes the Albany Plan of Union as an opportunity for colonists to unite. Proposes that representatives from each colony get together once a year to agree on certain issues: How the colonists are going to expand. How to deal with Native Americans Colonial defense - instead of depending on English soldiers Wants King of England to select person in charge of group - still see themselves as British citizens TERM 7 Is the Albany Plan of Union successful? DEFINITION 7 fails completely The colonies do not want to give up autonomy, individual power to become one unit. TERM 8 Peace of Paris DEFINITION 8 1763 England wins, gain Canadian territory & up to Mississippi River. France loses, only keeps 2 fishing islands in Canada, 2 sugar islands in Caribbean. Spain fought with the French during the war: England takes Florida. France gives up Louisiana Territory to Spain. (At this time, neither Spain nor England have the resources to occupy the Louisiana Territory.) TERM 9 Results of the French and Indian War DEFINITION 9 As a result of the war, England becomes much more hands on with the colonies. Also, they need to pay back the debt of the war. TERM 10 Proclamation of 1763 DEFINITION 10 Native Americans in Detroit are nervous about the English. Led by a man named Pontiac, they start attacking English soldiers. England passes the Proclamation to show that they will keep their promises, creating a line through the Appalachians for colonists not to move past. Colonists, including George Washington, immediately disobey, quietly sneaking past English soldiers. The relationship between England and the colonies begins to fracture.
