TERM 1 1 DEFINITION 1 Good morning Chairperson, ladies and gentlemen. My first speaker Jason has made it clear that being mature is vital in a relationship. The affirmative team have tried unsuccessfully to prove this wrong. TERM 2 3 DEFINITION 2 To start, it is crucial to review that an immature early relationship can lead to child pregnancy which is disastrous for both the parents and the child due to problems such as lack of financial support and health issues. TERM 3 4 DEFINITION 3 First Love between teenagers is the most beautiful, confusing and dangerous emotion. This is because the brain of a teen is still developing in which the decision making area or the frontal cortex of the brain is yet to develop hence using the amygdale to take decisions for themselves. TERM 4 5 DEFINITION 4 Amygdale a small almond shaped region that guides instinctual or gut reactions. Reactions, rather than rational thoughts emerges from the amygdale which means an immature brain leads to impulsivity or a risk taking behaviour which can increase the rate if pregnancy in teens. TERM 5 6 DEFINITION 5 Firstly, in 2013, the birth rate in Australia among young women was 14.6 births per 1,000 women. 1 in 25 live births in Australia in 2009 were to teenage mothers, and two in every 100 girls aged between 15 and 19 years become pregnant every year. These numbers are a result of immature behaviour of teen boys and girls who are too young to date. TERM 6 7 DEFINITION 6 Secondly, there are numerous medical risks that a teen experiences during early age pregnancy. Few of which are high blood pressure and postpartum of after birth depression both are very dangerous to the mother and the child. Pregnant teens have a higher risk of getting high blood pressure called pregnancy- induced hypertension, than pregnant women in their 20s or 30s. Additionally, they also have a higher risk of preeclampsia. TERM 7 8 DEFINITION 7 This is a dangerous medical condition that combines high blood pressure with excess protein in the urine, swelling of a mother's hands and face, and organ damage. These medical risks affect the pregnant teen, who may need to take medications to control symptoms. But they can also disrupt the unborn baby's growth. And, they can lead to further pregnancy complications such as premature birth. TERM 8 9 DEFINITION 8 Furthermore, pregnant teens may be at higher risk of postpartum depression, according to the CDC. Depression can interfere with taking good care of a newborn and with healthy teenage development. TERM 9 10 DEFINITION 9 Thirdly, teenage parents face a lot of problems from parenting to finances, especially because the teenager has not even started earning when the baby is born. Teenage mothers face a lot of issues when it comes to financially supporting medical care. If the teenage mother has insurance, her medical problems get covered, but the baby would need a separate insurance. TERM 10 11 DEFINITION 10 When the parents dont have insurance to cover maternity care, the child and the family is burdened to pay for birth and postpartum care. Moreover, most programs available for the benefit of teenage mothers are based on income. For instance, if the teenage mothers parents earn more than the minimum income, the teenage mother may be denied services, thereby leaving the burden of the costs on the parents.
