A. POOR BODY ALIGNMENT TECHNIQUE Dance requires moving the limbs in controlled and precise manner. The trunk should be stable and the spine is aligned properly. Some dances like break dancing require perfect execution of technique to ensure the safety of the individual. B. EXCESSIVE TRAINING DURATION AND INTENSITY An optimal dance floor should be able to absorb the impact that is generated by the performer. A hard floor does not help dancers. The repetitive shock absorbed by the foot would eventually damage the foot or other parts of the lower extremity. D. POOR SHOES DESIGN Footwear is able to correct foot mechanics and reduce the impact on the foot. A shoe that does not fit properly or has insufficient shock absorption will significantly contribute to injury risk. Some materials used on the soles do not offer sufficient traction on the floor and this could lead to slips and falls. Use the shoes that are appropriate to your chosen dance.
Types of
musculoskeletal
injuries:
A
1. Acute Dance-Related Injuries - Occur when mechanical force that is absorbed by the musculoskeletal structure is more than what it is accustomed to. - The onset of pain and other symptoms occur immediately after the impact. Common Acute Dance-Related Injuries
Type of Injury Cause Symptom Prevention
Ankle Sprain | Twist an ankle Pain at the side ofthe | Exercises that strengthen the
after a jump ankle ankle and improves balance
Dancer's Twists the foot Pain at the outer part | Exercises that strengthen the foot
Fracture when turning of the foot and improve balance
Back Strain Sudden movement | Pain andstiffmessin | Proper posture and technique
of the trunk the low back
2. Chronic Dance-Related Injuries - Occur due to repetitive trauma and the body is not given enough time to recover. - The onset of pain and other symptoms occur at gradual rate, which is usually worsened with activity training. Common Chronic Dance-Related Injuries
Type of Injury Cause Symptom Prevention
Stress Fracture | Prolonged repetitive | Painatthefrontofthe | Adequate rest

Achilles Excessive training Pain near the heelinthe | Adequate rest
