Explain succinctly the following terms (1 pt each): (a) Jurisdictional dispute (b) Double breasted contractors 2. Explain briefly the significance/impact of the following labor laws on the construction industry (1 pt each): (a) Davis Bacon Act (b) Landrum-Griffin Act 3. Name the four foundations of a good job site safety program. (1 pt) 4. Calculate the hourly cost to a contractor for a carpenter on a project in a subsistence area. The carpenter works on the second shift of a three-shift job and works ten-hour shifts six days a week. Under shift pay agreement, the last three hours of the weekdays (Monday-Friday) are considered to be overtime. The entire sixth day is worked on an overtime basis. Overtime is paid at time and a half. The contractor carries $300,000/$300,000 public liability and $25,000/$100,000 property damage insurance. Use 7.5% FICA, and 5% for unemployment insurance. Subsistence pay is $ 50 per day. Use Table 14.5 from the textbook for fringe rates. Define and explain the following terms: (1 pt each) a) Jurisdictional dispute- A dispute between one or more unions over a given item of work. These occur mainly because a particular union regards a certain type of work as proprietary and jealously guards against any encroachment of their traditional sphere of work by other unions (e.g. Installation of metal doors and frames – carpenters or metal workers?) b) Double breasted contractors- A firm that is organized so that it has two branches--one that bids on union jobs and one that bids on non-union jobs.
