Arithmetic and Geometric Sequences: Selfies and Girls in Math Performance Tasks, Essays (high school) of English

GeometrySequences and SeriesÁlgebra

Two math performance tasks for grade 10 students. The first task involves calculating the number of selfies taken by princess within 4 hours using arithmetic sequences. The second task deals with determining the total number of girls who attended lectures in different barangays using geometric sequences. Students will learn about the patterns and formulas of arithmetic and geometric sequences.

What you will learn

  • How many girls attended the lectures in Barangay 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7?
  • What is the common difference in the arithmetic sequence of selfies?
  • What is the common ratio in the geometric sequence of girls attending lectures?
  • How many selfies did Princess take in total?

Princess takes 60 selfies in an hour, and additional 30 in the next hour. It took her 4 hours to take selfies before she stopped taking them. 2. 3. The sum of the first terms of the arithmetic sequence 60, 90, 120 and 150 is 420. If you take any number in the sequence then subtract it by the previous one, and the result is always the same or constant then it is an arithmetic sequence. A geometric sequence is a sequence of numbers in which the ratio between consecutive terms is constant. The World Health Organization reported that about 16 million adolescent girls between 15 to 19 years of age give birth each year. Knowing the adverse effects of adolescent childbearing on the health of the mothers as well as their infants, a group of students from Malonoy High School volunteered to help the government in its campaign for the prevention of early pregnancy by giving lectures to 7 barangays about the WHO guidelines on teenage pregnancy. The group started in Barangay 1 and 4 girls attented the lecture. Girls from other Barangays heard about it so 8 girls attended from Barangay 2 – 16 from Barangay3, 32 from Barangay 4, and so on. Barangay 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Number of girls attended the lecture 4 8 16 32 64 126 256 a1=4 ; a7=256 Since a7=a1 r 6 then 256 = 4 r6 a1=4 a2=4 ¿ a3=4 ¿ a4=4¿ a5=4 ¿ a6=4 ¿ a1=a2a7=256 ;r=2 sn = a1−an5 1−r s7= 4−256(2) 1−2 s7= 4−512 −1 s7= −508 −1 The total numbers of girls who will benefit from the lecture from Barangay 1 to Barangay 7 are 508.
