As a result, the company successfully implemented new application software replacing the failed accounting system. a) What is meant by a specialized software in this context? b) Identify with explanations the weaknesses of implementing, a specialized software in a company. c) Explain the key decision criteria the company would consider in evaluating the choice of a specialized software. Question 3 The telecommunications revolution led to the marriage of computers and communications; and also (the information highway), that is, the high-speed digital telecommunications networks, accessible by the general public. Moreover today, telecommunication is considered the backbone of information and communications technology (ICT) and the architect of the Internet boom. a) Explain why telecommunication is considered the backbone of ICT. b) Identify the most popular Internet applications driving businesses today. c) Show how businesses have been endangered as a result of the Internet? Question 4 There are several kinds of peripherals that can be added to a computer system for processing commercial data through data processing methods. The main distinction among computer peripherals is the way they are connected to the computer, some internally connected while others are externally connected. Moreover, most organizations acquire computer peripherals using the outright purchase method or also referred to as direct method due to the benefits associated with that acquisition method. a) What is meant by the outright purchase method in computer acquisition? b) Identify and explain the different types of computer peripherals commonly used in the world of business today. c) Briefly explain the criteria which would be considered when choosing processing methods by both individuals and organizations. Question 5 A business enterprise is currently using two parallel strategies that include a manual strategy and distributed strategy, in data processing to maintain their business competitiveness. A proposal has been put forward by an ICT consultancy firm to introduce a data processing strategy where data will be directly entered into the computer system and also provided by an application service provider (ASP) to support the current business operations strategically. In each of these data processing strategies, data passes through the same basic stages commonly referred to as the data processing cycle. a) With examples distinguish between the batch processing strategy and distributed data processing strategy. b) State the proposed data processing strategy and explain the benefits the organization
