What approach would you advise Annie to take in her current leadership position? Why would you recommend this approach? It is important for Annie to involve an appropriate contemporary approach to solve the leadership differences and problems, and in this case, the most appropriate approach is the shared/collaborative leadership. In management, collaborative leadership is a management technique where leaders work collaboratively across sectors in order to make choices and ensure the long-term success of their business (Fischer, 2018). Recently, this form of leadership has become increasingly popular among managers, displacing the traditional top management method, where top executives came up with paramount decisions that were then passed down to lower-level staff without providing any glimpse into why those decisions. This leadership approach, unlike the traditional top-down method, provides several advantages to businesses. Management team cohesion allows managers to make successful business choices rapidly, to establish and preserve the firm's fundamental principles, and to proactively resolve issues as one, unified team at the highest level of the organization. This high- level embrace of cooperation also serves to illustrate to the staff that they should also involve collaborative approach (Fischer, 2018). In our case, Peter and Annie should work together as a team to achieve the common goal of the organization. When a problem arises that is largely within Annie's sphere of influence, Peter is supposed to confer with her first. With the collaborative leadership approach, Annie will be able present her concerns to Peter freely such as ANNIE’S DILEMMA CASE STUDY 5 the issue on justifiable pay increase for her employees without being dismissed, hence serving as role models to their subordinates. Relationship between power and public leadership Power and leadership are two concepts that are interlinked with one another. Power involves the capacity to exert influence over other people, and is utilized by leaders to achieve group objectives. Understanding the functioning of power in an organization improves your ability to be a successful leader in your organization (Araujo & Orsatto, 2016). A leader should be a role model who inspires enthusiasm, and foster the transformational leadership. The concept of bureaucracy, according to Weber, is an important element for the suitable use of power in the public leadership. The concept made it clear that a leader must adhere to a systematic approach while upholding aspects such as impersonality, moral standards, publicity, and performance. In this approach, the general public's welfare would be ensured. However, as seen in our case with Peter, public leaders are pragmatic manipulators who disregard the public's best interests in the sake of expediency. Measures of success in the public leadership are far more complicated than in the private sector, as public leadership is more attentive to ethical conduct. However, it is hard to formulate indicators since there is a significant degree of subjectivity and perceptions of the benefits of public leadership (Araujo & Orsatto, 2016). Leadership, particularly in the public sector, necessitates a high level of ethical conduct. Following that, there are certain leadership talents and tactics to consider, such as decision-making, innovation capacity; collaborative and transformational.
